@purplepingers A chunk of Australia's super rests heavily on this bank. The share price fall is coming out of the retirement savings of Aussies. It doesn't particularly harm the rich.

@gbrumfiel @latimes @nabihbulos Wow, that is an extremely noble assassination. (And nobly received too) Did Iran act this nobly when they tried to assassinate the US president, before this war?

An absolutely astonishing account of Israel's AI-assisted targeting in the @latimes They called 62-year-old Ahmad Turmus and asked: “Ahmad, you want to die with those around you or alone?” His response, below, is chilling. Story by @nabihbulos latimes.com/world-nation/s…

@Noahpinion It is possible that the US can think for itself It is possible that someone finally decided to do something about the worst state sponsor of international terrorism in the world today It is possible that the hawks can think for themselves without being mind-controlled by Jews

Israel is technologically very capable, and militarily incredibly effective. The reason they're a bad ally is that they dragged us into the disastrous Iran War. We can't have that.

Americans always hate when I say this but it's true: Compared to Australia, somebody living in Houston can earn a median $92k AUD salary, buy a home for $450k AUD and buy petrol for $1.40 AUD per litre Plus you get lower income tax. Americans are really well off
Demon Realms@Demon_Realms

Honestly don't understand how there are so many americans talking about being broke. You guys have absurdly high wages and low cost of living compared to the rest of the world. You're playing on easy mode and still losing

@TMFScottP It comes from the (progressive) view that anyone struggling is not an investor, and any investor is not struggling. They imagine selling shares when you have no income is appropriate downsizing or a luxury choice, not to be confused with just having a low income.

For a progressive govt, the new 30% *minimum* tax on Capital Gains - regardless of income level - is purely regressive. 30% tax from the first dollar of income. Imagine the outcry if they (or their opponents) did that on wages! Did they even ask an expert? #Budget2026
Scott Phillips@TMFScottP

I've said there's no justification for taxing capital gains more generously than earned income. But there's also no justification for taxing capital gains *less generously* than earned income. The 30% minimum CGT tax rate does just that. Madness. #Budget2026

THEY FUCKING SOLD EVERYTHING! And now all those public assets that they sold off now rake in billions for the private owners. The housing crisis exists because of Howard.

@bnthompson I'll be moving mine elsewhere - putting 10 years into my various endeavors and the govt taking half on top of the 50% of wages is just too much. Not to mention payday super - Cashflow just became impossible for small service based business. Brain drain here we go!

Argentina can borrow in dollars until October 2027 at about 5.02% annual yield. To borrow just one year longer, until October 2028, investors demanded 8.5%. Why the difference? Argentina has a presidential election in 2027. . In plain English: investors are much more confident Argentina will pay while Milei is in office than they are after a possible Peronist/Kirchnerist return. Tip: Don’t elect people the bond market thinks are less likely to pay their debts. They're not going to do good things for your country.

Cutting gas taxes when oil supply is constrained is like subsidizing housing buyers when zoning blocks new supply: the price must rise. The benefit flows to sellers, not buyers. #Econ101.

@dannolan One generates revenue and (marginally) disincentives garbage food The other costs a TONNE of revenue (going to US pharma) and doesn't address garbage food GLP-1 without expert guidance (dietitian, exercise) has some long-term complications that will cost a public health system

Crime is so sensitive a topic that pretty much anything we could do about it is said to "have ethical issues". Which in practice means that we can only keep doing what we have been doing, nothing new is allowed.

@WabbitCwaz19912 @elonmusk Ok so why don't any companies just have the workers own the shares, and then outcompete him? Why has no company with this model *ever* succeeded, with the possible exception of agribusiness?

Elon Musk's workers do 99% of the work, but Musk takes 99% of the profit. The value of his stock should be divided up among all his workers at his companies, since the only thing we see Musk do all day is shitpost on X and snort ketamine. What Eloser does isn't capitalism. It's THEFT!

A recent study found that 94% of Canada’s trans-identifying inmates didn’t come out as transgender until after they were arrested. The same study also found that trans-identifying male inmates are 5x more likely to be sex offenders than other male inmates. Locking these men in women’s prisons is a violation of international law and every legitimate human rights organization should say so.

Complaints that $31k per house doesn't build much ignore how dysfunctional the housing market is. The private sector is busting to build. The government just needs to remove unnecessary obstacles. Housing-friendly infrastructure has a huge multiplier.
