Instead of asking for work and receiving silence, bring an idea to the table after performing a lit review and gaining an understanding of the topic with a plan in place to execute the project. Do the work first and I promise you will start getting replies to your emails

As a medical student, it is important to understand the student asking “do you have any research I can help with?” is seldom being fed project ideas in today’s world of AI and easy access to knowledge. Attendings are looking for go-getters, self-starters, and proactive thinkers.

@TheJNS Absolutely. We previously published a retrospective study showing similar results: The degree of compensatory loss of lordosis at the adjacent level L4-L5 correlated with the extent of segmental lordosis creation at the index L5-S1 level. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/21…

Hi #orthotwitter A quick question that caused some debate at my hospital: For a simple shoulder dislocation, do you require patients to fast for 6 hours, or is it considered an emergency where a short sedation can be done without fasting? @InvictaOrtho @anklefootmd @Davembmd

@DrFraneNicholas @orthobullets @JafarniaMD @HMethodistMD @sebcyc @solimanibra92 @TylerWillOrtho @schulte_ss @bonesmith_ @eric_novack @robgraymd @itius @FractureDoc Great points. Yes, the SL joint and even the scaphoid on AP post reduction looked like a possible non-displaced fracture. We got the CT to make sure nothing else was going on and for pre-op planning. Carpal bones normal, and given poly trauma, athlete dominant hand, we fixed both

Would MRI if exam was not straightforward (no gap, Insall Salvati normal, cannot SLR), concerned it wasn’t patellar avulsion, or if this is an overnight consult in the community and wanted to sign them up for outpatient surgery from clinic

@orthotraumamd @orthobullets @JafarniaMD @HMethodistMD consider CT with intra-articular fractures that we are planning operative fixation for. Could see extension into joint easier on post-reduction. There was also a strange look to the scaphoid (likely just position or obscured by plaster) but we wanted a closer look at that too

@orthobullets @JafarniaMD @AustinNguyenMD @HMethodistMD @sebcyc @solimanibra92 @schulte_ss @bonesmith_ @eric_novack @robgraymd @itius @FractureDoc @DrFraneNicholas For patellar tendon, either suture anchors or three bone tunnels with Krackow up and down. While suture anchor may decrease gapping and better restore the footprint, not sure we have seen a clinical difference play out in the literature. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC94…
