Tesla's unboxed process + Gigacasting can reduce the size of multi-billion-$ paint shops by 70%❗
You read that right. In conventional vehicle production, the complete Body-in-White — a single mass of more than 500 kg — travels through the paint shop as one unit.
The unboxed process removes that constraint.
-> Conventional: >500 kg single mass sent through the paint shop
-> Unboxed: vehicle sections sent one by one or in parallel lines dedicated to specific sizes
-> Gigacastings can bypass the paint line entirely
-> Cybercab Gigacastings are assembled raw without protective coating
-> Net result: more than 130 kg less mass processed through the paint shop
-> Paint shop size reduced by 70% (Caresoft Global)
This works because the vehicle is built from major modules in parallel sub-lines rather than a single linear flow.
Each section can be coated on equipment matched to its size instead of forcing the full heavy assembly through one oversized paint line.
The result directly attacks one of the largest Capex items in any vehicle plant.
Smaller paint shops lower the investment required to launch new programs and support higher production volumes.
