It is hereby informed that a false, and malicious news report was published in the Namaste Telangana daily newspaper and subsequently circulated on certain social media platforms under the caption “ట్యాపింగ్ కేసులో జర్నలిస్టులకు వేధింపులు” on May 19, 2026.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) categorically rejects the allegations made in the article, as they are not only false but also malicious in nature.
The claim that certain journalists are being harassed by the SIT is entirely baseless, fabricated, and far from the truth. The investigation into the grave offences reported by the SIB — including the misuse of SIB resources, illegal telephone interception, destruction of evidence, and related offences — is being conducted strictly in accordance with due process of law and established legal procedures.
As part of the investigation, two journalists who were found to be aware of certain facts and circumstances relevant to the case were examined. They cooperated with the investigation voluntarily and without any issues.
The publication of the said article appears to be a deliberate and calculated attempt to mislead the public, create a false narrative, and maliciously interfere with a highly sensitive ongoing investigation initiated on the basis of a complaint lodged by a senior police officer of the SIB.
By naming individual investigating officers and attributing false motives and high-handedness to them, the publication has attempted to demoralise law enforcement officers who are discharging their lawful duties in uncovering a serious breach of public trust and law, in complete disregard of constitutional principles.
Further, publishing one-sided, unverified, and defamatory content without verifying the facts with the SIT or the Police Department constitutes a gross violation of the journalistic ethics prescribed by the Press Council of India.
In an ongoing investigation of this magnitude, targeting the investigating agency through fabricated narratives amounts to interference with the administration of justice.
Accordingly, a notice has been issued to the editor of the concerned newspaper directing them to cease and desist from publishing such unverified, false, and motivated news reports that may hamper or prejudice the ongoing investigation. The newspaper has also been asked to publish an unconditional retraction and clarification acknowledging that the allegations of harassment made against the SIT were unverified and false.
In this context, it is reiterated that any attempt to drag SIT officials into such unverified, false, and imaginary narratives will attract action as per law. It is further requested that no such fabricated or malicious reports relating to the investigation be attributed to the SIT.
The SIT is not party to any baseless or imaginary reporting by any individual or platform.
