@GeriPerna @Lowes At my local Lowes, they'll have two people watching self-checkout, laughing and looking at their phones, so I walk past them to the contractor register where there's always a cashier.

I am so tired of ringing up my own purchases. @Lowes, you need actual cashiers, not people standing around making sure customers ring everything up. I bought some adhesive today, and the register wouldn't continue until the supervisor typed in a bunch of overrides. How is this any different than her ringing up the purchase herself? There is no one in any department to assist with finding anything, and I find myself buying items on my Amazon app WHILE SHOPPING IN YOUR STORE because I cannot find anyone to help me. Do you want me to show up in the morning to unload the trucks and stock the shelves, too?

I taught American Government for decades. Separation of church and state is about as basic as you get. It’s not just the 1st Amendment that makes this clear. Article VI, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution prohibits any religious test as a qualification for federal office or public trust. That’s also a clear separation between religious belief and your right to serve in elected office. My high school juniors understood this, but a sitting Senator doesn’t?

One thing I will never understand about this time in my life is how so many fcking stupid and unqualified people rose to power.

Let me explain the sinister nature of what Trump actually does to people. He asks: are you loyal to me? Yes. Good. No forever wars. Are you with me? Yes. No forever wars. Then he starts the wars. And now he needs you to be with him on the wars too. And then the Epstein files come out. Allegations involving children. And he needs you to look the other way on that too. That’s the mechanism. That’s how it works. He moves the goalposts incrementally. Each ask is slightly more compromising than the last. And by the time you realize how far you’ve traveled from your own principles you are so deep in that you can’t find your way back. Loyalty to Trump doesn’t mean loyalty to an idea or a policy or a vision for the country. It means asymmetric, unconditional, no-questions-asked loyalty to whatever he decides is true today. You have to understand the sinister nature of that to understand what is really happening in Washington right now. This isn’t politics. This is a loyalty trap.

As a woman who prosecuted child and adult sexual assault cases for two decades. Sexual predators don't lurk in women's bathrooms. They lurk in boardrooms, on pulpits and positions of power. This is the lesson we should take away from the Chávez revelations.
