Thanks to Marie and Kevin on my @AvantiWestCoast train this morning... they made this early start a little more bearable. Great customer service 👏

Gorgeous start to the day in Wolverhampton as I head into Birmingham for the #StrictlyRE 2025 conference. Excited to hear from all the speakers. Always the best CPD of the year @TeamRE_UK @NATREupdate @RE_Today

This makes sense. I think that sometimes seductive details can be a useful 'hook' for students.
Especially if the content is abstract and the seductive detail is concrete.

How flashy should your lessons be? New study on 'seductive details' which are defined as "interesting but irrelevant" aspects of a lesson. Key takeaways: ▶️ “When cognitive resources are already stretched thin, seductive details can pull learners’ attention away from essential content.” ▶️“Students with higher prior knowledge are less likely to be negatively affected by seductive details, as they can separate relevant from irrelevant information more easily.” ▶️HOWEVER..“In contexts where learners lack external incentives, seductive details can help spark curiosity and make learning more enjoyable.” Hmm.. 📷 Full study here (open access): lnkd.in/eq6RhZzN

@BridgetBurke2 @missdcox Same... I'd start with the corr knowledge needed for each unit, then look for links/'golden threads' and add/tweak where needed, then flash out the plan lesson-by-lesson

@CharlieRevillo @nostalgiapro Source? I’ve never heard of this. I’m curious where this info comes from.

It's been 2 days since we lost our baby Chloe. I've been reading everybody's replies and DMs and I am forever grateful for the outpouring of support from random people on the internet. There are so many good people in this world and I can't possibly thank you guys enough.
My heart will forever be broken with the loss of our little girl. I want to share this picture of me holding Chloe. She fit in my hand so perfectly. She was the most perfect thing ever created.
I will never forget watching her take her last breath as she passed away in my arms.
I'm reaching the point now where I can talk about what happened without getting choked up and losing it. There is one thing I ask from everyone and that's to pray for my wife. She is having an incredibly tough time as you all can imagine.
Thanks again to everyone for their love and support. It means the world to us.♥️

@TeachREEthics @missdcox @RE_McGEE We start with Christianity, but I had wondered about starting with Islam instead.
I've found the ethics topics don't take as long once the student have a solid grounding in the beliefs and practices
English

I am on a mission ( pun intended) to fall in love with Christian practices at GCSE.
This week I have been looking at the Lord’s Prayer. A 🧵for @TeamRE_UK with some resources and approaches I have taken. 1/10
English

@TeachREEthics @missdcox @RE_McGEE Me too... I find the distinctions here too arbitrary.
I also ignore the spec order and teach the 2 beliefs units first, followed by the 2 practices units.... it doesn't make sense to me to look at marriage and divorce (for example) until you understand it as a sacrament

Great first and second sessions on Research around Atheism and Personal Knowledge... not just what should be in good RE, but the how and the why of sound curriculum design #StrictlyRE

English

Looking to the future of RE... we do lots of this already at BCA, but good to reflect on where we can develop our curriculum in light of a changing world #StrictlyRE
