@missdcox We use one of the BBC Sikhi videos about Amrit and the buy refers to it as a baptism/baptised Sikhs. I always get students to reflect on the language they use and one flagged this to me after watching the clip

I know I’ve posted about this before but I feel that this term I’ve noticed it more. Christianisation of language. Just read something saying that Sikh ‘Amrit’ is not ‘baptism’. And use of Christian language in RE ‘Jesus died to save us’. I feel this is confessional language.

@missdcox I think this is one of the areas where RS differs from other subjects... that idea of personal knowledge

This makes sense. I think that sometimes seductive details can be a useful 'hook' for students. Especially if the content is abstract and the seductive detail is concrete.

@BridgetBurke2 @missdcox Same... I'd start with the corr knowledge needed for each unit, then look for links/'golden threads' and add/tweak where needed, then flash out the plan lesson-by-lesson

@missdcox I’d start with a skeleton plan for each one , adding to each one as I have thoughts . Then go back and work through

Imagine you have 20 units of work to write. Do you: a) work through each one, starting with the first, then second etc? b) do some work on one, then some work on a different one etc, mixing it up?

It's been 2 days since we lost our baby Chloe. I've been reading everybody's replies and DMs and I am forever grateful for the outpouring of support from random people on the internet. There are so many good people in this world and I can't possibly thank you guys enough. My heart will forever be broken with the loss of our little girl. I want to share this picture of me holding Chloe. She fit in my hand so perfectly. She was the most perfect thing ever created. I will never forget watching her take her last breath as she passed away in my arms. I'm reaching the point now where I can talk about what happened without getting choked up and losing it. There is one thing I ask from everyone and that's to pray for my wife. She is having an incredibly tough time as you all can imagine. Thanks again to everyone for their love and support. It means the world to us.♥️

@TeachREEthics @missdcox @RE_McGEE We start with Christianity, but I had wondered about starting with Islam instead. I've found the ethics topics don't take as long once the student have a solid grounding in the beliefs and practices

I am on a mission ( pun intended) to fall in love with Christian practices at GCSE. This week I have been looking at the Lord’s Prayer. A 🧵for @TeamRE_UK with some resources and approaches I have taken. 1/10

@TeachREEthics @missdcox @RE_McGEE Me too... I find the distinctions here too arbitrary. I also ignore the spec order and teach the 2 beliefs units first, followed by the 2 practices units.... it doesn't make sense to me to look at marriage and divorce (for example) until you understand it as a sacrament

@missdcox @RE_McGEE I grouped persecution, local church, worldwide church, reconciliation and evaluation all under the banner of mission which worked well.

I love how the word 'atone' wears its heart on its sleeve. It began as 'at one', because to atone is to bring back unity. Atonement is really 'at-one-ment'. In the same way, 'alone' began as 'all one'.
