I think if one is trying to figure out if a candidate is sympathetic to Nazis, one of the most important tests is whether the candidate knowingly got a death’s head tattoo signifying an elite, brutal group of SS officers and kept it until the second he wanted to run for Senate and someone noticed. It’s an insult to everyone’s intelligence to suggest otherwise. Sorry, his Medicare thoughts from last week are not permanent body art or absolution.

As the community note makes clear, I didn't delete it because I stand by it. But if MAGA world has decided their best play is to insult Mainers' intelligence by trying to fool them into thinking Platner's old tattoo makes him a Nazi sympathizer, best of luck in November!

Dmitri Mendeleev (1834–1907), a pioneering Russian chemist, earned his Doctor of Science degree in 1865 from the University of St. Petersburg with a dissertation on the combinations of water and alcohol. He subsequently joined the faculty there as a professor of inorganic chemistry.Finding no adequate textbook for the subject, and having previously authored a well-received organic chemistry text, Mendeleev undertook to write a comprehensive inorganic chemistry textbook. This endeavor required systematizing the approximately 56 known chemical elements according to their properties.By arranging the elements in order of increasing atomic weight, he identified recurring periodic patterns in their chemical and physical characteristics. This led him to construct a tabular arrangement—the precursor to the modern periodic table—in which analogous elements appeared in vertical groups (columns), with properties repeating periodically.Mendeleev's table included deliberate gaps where he predicted the existence of undiscovered elements, accurately forecasting their properties. Notable examples include:Eka-aluminium (later identified as gallium, discovered in 1875),
Eka-silicon (germanium, discovered in 1886),
And eka-boron (scandium, discovered in 1879).
He also revised accepted atomic weights and properties for several known elements, including uranium. As Mendeleev described his system: “When the elements are arranged in vertical columns according to increasing atomic weight, so that the horizontal lines contain analogous elements again according to increasing weight, an arrangement results from which several general conclusions may be drawn.”His formulation of the periodic law—that properties of elements are periodic functions of their atomic weights—laid the foundation for the modern periodic table, which has since expanded to accommodate over 118 elements. The discovery profoundly influenced later scientific endeavors, including predictions of transuranic element behavior during the Manhattan Project.Mendeleev's contributions extended beyond the table. In his later career, he served as director of the Russian Central Bureau of Weights and Measures, where he played a key role in standardizing measurements and introducing the metric system to the Russian Empire. He derived profound satisfaction from scientific inquiry, stating: “To conceive, understand, and grasp the whole symmetry of the scientific edifice, including its unfinished portions, is equivalent to tasting that enjoyment only conveyed by the highest forms of beauty and truth.”As an enthusiastic educator, he added: “Knowing how contented, free, and joyful is life in the realms of science, one fervently wishes that many would enter its portals.”His birthday (February 8 in the Gregorian calendar) is closely associated with celebrations of his legacy, and National Periodic Table Day is observed annually on February 7 to honor early contributions to elemental classification, including his enduring impact.

We're sure nobody saw this coming 👀
Through their first 20 games, the Charlotte Hornets went 6-14.
With that start, the doubts started to creep in.
People wanted LaMelo Ball gone so they can build on Kon Knueppel.
Others wanted head coach Charles Lee fired because him and Ball "weren't getting along."
It's going to be another tank year.
Give props to the Hornets for ignoring the outside noise and believing in their young core.
They play fast.
They play free.
And most importantly, they play for each other.
The Hornets young core centered on Ball, Miller, and Knueppel finally bought in and now they're scoring at a historic pace.
🔥 First team in 17 years to have two 50-point leads in the same month.
🔥 Trio of Ball, Miller, & Knueppel outscore opponents 11.5 pts/100 poss (99% in NBA)
🔥 Number one in offensive rating the last 15 games
With their latest win against the Rockets, the Hornets also have the longest active win streak in the league at 8.
Buzz City is back 🐝

Hard pass.
I would rather Rubio, Cruz, or Desantis.

Per @bball_ref, last night's game marked only the third time in NBA history that three teammates under 25 (LaMelo Ball, Kon Knueppel, Brandon Miller) each put up 25+ points and 5+ assists. 👀
— 2012 (OKC): Durant, Westbrook, Harden
— 1981 (POR): Natt, Paxson, Ransey
