@chrisadonnelly No, not looking to go back to the past, or seeking exclusivity of the public space, just want to ensure the next generation are not brought up to glorify terrorists. Erect a statue to John Hume and no one will have an issue.

‘Who decides what history looks like in public.’ That nails it. So much of our political instability is rooted in political unionism’s desire to ensure its worldview & culture is exclusively affirmed in our shared & public space. Put simply, it wants to go back to the Past.
Suzanne Breen@SuzyJourno

From the H-Blocks to City Hall. As the 45th anniversary of his death approaches, the Bobby Sands' statue story is about much more than metal, masonry & planning permission. It raises key questions about who in NI decide what history looks like in public. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/comment/opinio…

Does anyone else think the coverage of the moon trip is a tad overdone? Seems strange we are celebrating something that was achievable over 50 years ago.

@anfieldforge Time for him to move on, the club should cash in when they can still get a few pound for him. What he did before Christmas was unforgivable, very selfish behaviour.

I’m genuinely torn between two minds. Part of me wants Mo Salah to absolutely tear Ivory Coast apart tomorrow, carry Egypt through the semi finals, the final, the lot, and lift AFCON like the Egyptian King he is. But then there’s the selfish Liverpool fan in me who’s quietly hoping Egypt go out early. Get Mo straight back to Anfield, fully focused, fully fired up, and ready to kick-start our season when we need him most. Either way, I’ll be watching it with nerves, mixed emotions, and absolutely no shame in changing my mind every five minutes.

@Muinchille Is this a genuine comment or an attempt to generate attention? There was peace in the Republic because the IRA (the reason for the 'Troubles') attacked NI not the Republic - I would have thought that was fairly obvious!!

Essentially, the Republic kept the peace on their side of the border for three long decades of the Troubles, despite much provocation from unionists and Brits alike, who a) still haven't worked out how it was done, and b) deeply resent the way it shows them up as incompetent.
KJH@KJH19322252

The Irish government doesn’t like hearing the truth about its scandalous behaviour during the “Troubles” and its capacity to duck out of accepting responsibility for the terrorism the Irish state helped facilitate by its actions and inaction. newsletter.co.uk/news/politics/…

@chrisadonnelly This is such a dumb comment from Chris that you really do wonder, does he have any understanding of theology. Neither Catholic or Protestant recognise the other as preaching the truth therefore (if you are true to your beliefs) how can you pray with the other.

Condemning the Head of State because he prayed with the Pope. A clear message to Catholics that they aren’t to be treated as equals in the UK. Will we hear BBCNI broadcasters & other journalists challenge unionist leaders to condemn the Order? Wither NI’s status in the UK?

Being anti-genocide should never be an orange vs green issue. The @SDLPlive believes strongly that the Education Minister has a moral duty to stand with children, not with those bombing their schools. He should resign.

There are a lot of people like me, very genuinely angry about the Israeli funded trip and the arrogance of the party reaction to any criticism of it. You might have no interest in what SF has to say but you should really listen to voters. They’ll have choices next time they vote.
Emma Little-Pengelly BL@little_pengelly

Unionists will not be bullied. The DUP has no interest in what Sinn Fein has to say about who should or shouldn’t serve in our Ministerial team. We see the faux outrage and petty politicking. No attempt at bullying, by SF or their friends across a pan-republican agenda, will succeed.

£4.3 MILLION: THIS IS THE PRICE OF SOLDIER F’S PERJURY Ciarán Shiels of Madden & Finucane Solicitors this evening said: “£4.3 million is the price the public have already paid because of Soldier F’s perjury at the Bloody Sunday Tribunal. “Judge Pat Lynch KC, in his 60 page written ruling acquitted Soldier F on all 7 charges before a Belfast Diplock Court last week. “Within his scathing judgment, the Trial Judge twice held that Soldiers H and G committed perjury before the Widgery Inquiry. Soldier H subsequently also committed perjury before the Bloody Sunday Inquiry (Soldier G was deceased and did not appear before Lord Saville). “All military witnesses and all witnesses who gave evidence concerning their memberships of either wing of the IRA on Bloody Sunday, received a specific assurance from the Attorney General that as long as they told the Bloody Sunday Tribunal the truth about what happened, regardless of how many civilians they murdered, or criminal offences they committed, they had the cast iron guarantee they would never face police interviews under caution, or a trial process that hung over their heads for approximately 7 years. “However no soldier who was involved in firing rifles at civilians that day, in fact told the truth about Bloody Sunday to the Saville Tribunal. Lord Saville concluded as much in his findings. “This is an obscene amount of public money being used to defend a multiple murderer and attempted murderer and to ensure that he never would face justice for his criminality. “There is an ingrained culture of mendacity that has pervaded for generations right through the British Army. “£4.3 million in legal fees would appear to be the going rate for the Ministry of Defence to happily pay out, when ensuring an important serial killer never sees the inside of a prison cell. “This is the reward for his perjured evidence to an International Tribunal of Inquiry.”

Since announcing yesterday that I'm seeking to submit a no confidence motion in Paul Givan I've been inundated w/ supportive messages. To be clear, it's not only his awful actions in Israel. Here at home, he has pursued a viciously right-wing, anti-teacher agenda. He should go.

Nationalist supremacists keep referring to the imposition of Irish language signage as a “minority right” - could someone please ask them to specify what “right” as a matter of domestic law they are referring to? You can just label political demands “rights” as some kind of trump card!
