NEW: 50 empty Waymos invade Atlanta neighborhoods and circle their cul-de-sacs for hours early in the mornings.
Residents say they are getting waymo traffic than usual and have tried combating the cars with a neon green sign, which only made the problem worse.
The Waymos didn't know what to do and clogged the entire street.
"We have small animals and pets, got kids getting on the bus in the morning, and it just doesn’t feel safe to have that traffic," one resident said.
The residents say Waymo has not given them a response yet.

Not saying this explains Brandon Clarke’s death — cause of death is still pending — but one detail deserves more attention.
He was reportedly arrested April 1 with a THC vape pen and 230+ grams of kratom. He was found dead May 11. That is less than six weeks later.
People need to talk more about THC + kratom.
The danger may not be “one kratom dose + weed.” The scarier scenario is kratom saturation after days of use, then adding a normal amount of THC/vape. That happened to me years ago and I ended up calling paramedics because I felt like I was dying.
Kratom needs washout time. If your system is overloaded, THC can hit very differently. This combo deserves a louder warning.

Brandon Clarke's death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose, LAPD confirmed to ABC News. Clarke was found at a home in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.

38% higher sounds alarming, but absolute numbers tell the real story. Santa Cruz (40k kids under 15) averages 9 childhood cancer cases/year — just **2.5 more** than the statewide rate would predict. Rare events + small numbers = big % swings and wide confidence intervals. Still tragic, but the raw risk difference is tiny. Context matters.
English

I wish this was fake but residents near Driscoll’s berry farms report a 38% higher incidence of childhood cancer.
Santa Cruz County is the heart of California's $3B strawberry industry and home to Driscoll's world headquarters.
Coincidentally, it also has the second-highest childhood cancer rate of any county in California.
At 22.5 childhood cancers per 100,000 children, the rate is more than 38% above the statewide average of 16.3.
Over 5,060 acres of pesticides linked to those same cancers are sprayed in the Pajaro Valley every year to grow 40% of California's strawberries.
Worst of all, it’s often next to schools and homes where children spend most of their time.
According to the latest data, over 2,000,000 pounds of pesticides were applied just in this school district’s area alone.
Driscoll’s is reported to apply two together:
1. 1,3-D: fumigant used to sterilize the soil, officially listed by the state as a carcinogen, causes tumors in multiple animal studies
2. Chloropicrin: originally deployed as a chemical weapon in World War I, so toxic that it kills or disables test animals before scientists can even evaluate its long-term carcinogenicity
But yeah it’s probably just a coincidence all the kids are getting cancer?
This is why you need to be buying local and seasonal fruit.
Do not trust major corporations to do the right thing for our food or health.

@milesdeutscher You can't drop a system prompt into Gemini that's going to say, "Don't be sensitive to other people's needs and don't be politically correct." Gemini is trained to view that as prompt injection. So, yeah, better plan on editing that part out before you run it in Gemini.

@podoffame @baseball_ref 1.1 WAR in 111 AB with 11 homers kinda jumps out to me.
English

When Kyle Schwarber woke up yesterday morning, his career WAR stood at 20.2.
Waking up today, it stands at 20.8.
He increased his career WAR by 3% in one day.
Kyle is in his 12th MLB season.
That jump HAS to be a single day record for a player this far into their career.

Jim Miloch@podoffame
Kyle Schwarber had a DAY as the Phillies won both games of a doubleheader: 5-6, 2 HR, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 3 BB, 3 R Other notes: ⚾️ Tied game in bottom of the 9th with a double in Game 2 ⚾️ Home runs were 350th and 351st of his career ⚾️ Became 7th fastest player to 350 home runs

@om_patel5 Doesn't seem to harsh to me. Anthropic has the right to charge what they want for their various products. Supply and demand dictates that some $20 users may decide to go elsewhere. It sucks if you are that $20 user, but that's life.
English

ANTHROPIC JUST QUIETLY LOCKED OPUS BEHIND A PAYWALL-WITHIN-A-PAYWALL FOR PRO USERS
they announced it in a TINY note buried in a support article
if you're on claude pro at $20/month and using claude code, opus is no longer included
the support docs literally says it now:
"when using a pro plan with claude code, you will only be able to use opus models after enabling and purchasing extra usage"
so let me get this straight:
> you pay $20/month for pro
> you use claude code, which already requires the pro subscription
> you want to use opus, anthropic's flagship model
> you now have to pay extra on top of that to even access it
the default model in claude code is now sonnet 4.5. opus 4.7, opus 4.6, and opus 4.5 are all listed as supported but locked behind a separate purchase
every other tier of opus, every variant, every version, all paywalled inside the paywall
anthropic markets pro as the way to "access claude's full capabilities"
apparently full capabilities now means everything except the actual flagship model
this is the third quiet pricing change in a month. claude code got removed from pro. github copilot raised claude multipliers 9x. now opus is gated for pro users who already pay every month
anthropic is moving everything to metered billing whether users like it or not
the people who built their workflows around opus on pro just got the rug pulled
