@doubleupagus @DrHelenFry Thats a really interesting question. I'll have to think about it. I am sure we all have some odd tics as a result.

@Bailey_RDB @DrHelenFry Lucky this trauma didn't roll down a generation or 2. My cousins' GF served in WWI. He came home so messed up he crawled into a bottle and never came out, except to terrorize his wife and children, including their father, who then terrorized them as kids. Still dealing with it.

Thank you. That is tremendous. I will get a copy.
Dachau never left my Dad. One of the things he was tasked w doing was shooting all the dogs - many of which were eating the bodies. As a result, he had this blind spot toward them and didnt want any dog near him. Very difficult for a family of dog lovers. There were so many little tics he had as a result.
He also had nightmares for the rest of his life. In 2019 he and my Mom (still alive today at 97) were staying with us for Christmas. Suddenly my wife and I bolted upright at around 2:00am. We could hear him screaming in the guest room downstairs. Then we heard my Mom calming him down. They were married in 1952 so she was an old hand at this.
He died December 26, 2023 at 102 years old. A good man. A good father. A good husband and a good life.

@Bailey_RDB I interviewed some of them, including for my new book “Nuremberg” which comes out tomorrow

In upstate Naples, NY my family and I took a winery tour during which we were told that during WWII the winery was used as a POW camp. It was fascinating.
They then told us that many of the prisoners worked in the town and after the war never went back to Germany because there was nothing left for them and the area so reminded them of home.
In a fascinating and wonderful twist, that winery made a kosher wine.

@WorkElizab New Haven to Boston on Pilgrim Air. Probably 1971. The pilot was wearing a "Tailspin Tommy" cap and a white scarf. I was 14 and scared sh*tless.

Hey @Comcast Yesterday we had no internet for 12 hours (had power the entire time) and now tonight we have the streamers we pay for but not the live TV we pay for. Look at the screenshot below.

@miles_commodore And the food they serve is a safe space for preservatives.

@miles_commodore It is a brilliant idea. Without it citizens all over the country would be disenfranchised as the Bos-Wash corridor (where I live) and California would essentially control who wins the Presidency.

@lady_valor_07 Absolutely. I can smell the dampness in the air. Not humidity... dampness.

@Matt_Pinner It wasnt a Nissan 240Z that burst on the scene in 1969. It was a Datsun 240Z.
