My wife and 13 year old daughter could not get into the RBC ATM in downtown Saskatoon as a number of homeless people had taken over the space and threatened them. The CIBC ATM was closed to keep homeless people out. The Scotiabank ATM was the only other ATM open but they were nearly robbed by a homeless person with a large face tattoo. On the way home they were threatened by a homeless person under the University Bridge. I am empathetic to the rapidly growing number of homeless people in downtown Saskatoon especially when it is so cold, but we are failing them as a society and reaching a crisis point. We need to do better – particularly the Government of Saskatchewan, who do not seem to appreciate the seriousness of this problem.
