Nasty week man. Nasty. Post Villa, vibes were good. Very positive. Rosenior made two huge errors for me: 1) Starting Jorgensen (which we know) 2) Starting with three at the back tonight. This seemed to wind a lot of people up last week. I stand by it. There was a banner in the Matthew Harding stand displayed before kick-off last night that displayed all of Chelsea’s trophies. And slap bang in the middle of it - much bigger than all the others - was the Club World Cup. It was good at the time but nobody outside Chelsea rates it. Forget about it, move on and concentrate on winning a trophy that will really send a statement.

The way Maresca managed our players, the team, he knew the deficiencies in this squad and did his best to hide them whilst pushing the strength of the squad as much as possible but he was flamed for it. The time taken to process Chelsea’s breaches and the sanctions applied in concert between the PL and the FA… absolutely none of it makes any sense. Settlement agreements don’t take years. And it’s not as if the FA process was fully independent either - it’s clear they have worked with the PL here. And there’s no way Masters and Brittain would have pushed for these insanely lenient sanctions against Chelsea without broader approval from enough PL clubs to feel there wouldn’t be backlash on them. So why would the PL and major clubs like Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal be comfortable with this? Only one reason I can think of - something that happened in November 2024 👀

Interesting that in the Everton points deduction verdict the Premier League said “A financial penalty for a club that enjoys the support of a wealthy owner is not a sufficient penalty” and that “the requirements of deterrence, vindication of compliant clubs, and the protection of the integrity of the sport demand a sporting sanction in the form of a points deduction’. Presumably the Chelsea fine (which ultimately is just a deduction from what billion dollar Clearlake will pay to billionaire Abramovich from the £150m held back at the deal date) is then neither punishment, a deterrent or protecting the integrity of the sport? If I was an Everton or Forest fan would not be happy with this outcome.
