@Sox_Savant @SASTackk I’m saying his xERA would be affected by that, but xFIP is literally just FIP where they replace his current HR/FB (0%) with league average (10.5%). That is what xFIP is. They could be lazy fly balls every time and his xFIP would still be high because he was giving up FB.

But xERA and xFIP aren’t necessarily supposed to be close like ERA and FIP are over big samples

Defensive metrics both love and hate Kevin McGonigle. He has 3 DRS at 3B currently, which is really good and why he’s already at 2.0 bWAR. But he also has -5 OAA, which would make him seem like he’s horrendous defensively. Defensive metrics are weird man.

@SASTackk His xFIP is much worse, 3.95. So perhaps he’s gotten lucky on balls that were expected to be homers that weren’t. Those batted balls hurt his xERA but don’t really affect his FIP

@Fecta23 @colinokeefe He did not have positive defensive WAR. Also, defensive fWAR is basically calculated by summing FRV (statcast fielding run value) and a positional adjustment, which for SS is +7.5. This makes it pretty difficult to have negative defensive WAR as a SS.
