@BankerBeaver @esaagar Not all, but many of these “poor olds” are sitting in large houses worth a lot of money. Perhaps they should downsize to apartments. Taxes turn into a mechanism to keep the housing market healthy. Granted it’s a little draconian

Was talking to a European last week, asked him how Americans are perceived over there. He very thoughtfully said there is a recognition that America graciously shielded the continent militarily for over two generations, but their politicians used that windfall subsidy to construct lavish social programs. So there is a reckoning with the sustainability of the social contract they wrote against the need for sovereign national defense spending. Now, kids are being drafted for the first time in anyone’s memory but is it the American’s fault? Yes for changing the price but no the western countries did this to themselves.
