Most analysis on Iran is still stuck in a 1980–1990 template: outdated assumptions about nation-states, opposition capacity, minority politics, and Turkey’s role. But the ground reality has changed. Reports that the CIA is arming Iranian Kurdish forces expose a deeper contradiction: parts of Iran’s opposition are attacking the only groups with real operational capacity inside the country. The Kurdish parties never stopped fighting Tehran. If Kurds across the region draw the right lessons from 2015–2017, they could be in a position to shape events. And much will depend on how Turkey approaches this moment — a strategic opening not seen since Yavuz Sultan Selim. My article from last night: forbes.com/sites/guneyyil…

Saturday marks a year since Ruben Amorim was named #MUFC boss. Asked about that time, he said with a laugh: “It was a journey! A big journey. It was tough, it was really tough. Good moments & bad moments. I learned a lot. I found out that even in my lower moments I can stick with the things that I believe and that is a good thing for anyone to understand”

@Muppetiers Seems like he's given up tbh. He no longer believes in the players and most of them have clearly lost faith in him. So he churns out the same setup once a week, waiting for the payout and the sweet release.

I’m just utterly disappointed in things. I’ve given my stance on system vs tactics vs this that and the other. I have felt very worried this season Amorim would walk himself into the sack with the choices he makes - sticking to your tactics is one thing but then routinely picking the wrong players and once again displaying ZERO consequences and accountability for senior players, is lowering the standards heavily. The same players every week, mostly young ones, get punished for the smallest mistakes while others are given a long enough rope to cost us. Amorim has given the message that it is okay to play shit one week to the next - because that’s what is happening. Inconsistent management and standards = inconsistent performances.

Jeg visste at vi neppe hadde mye å fare med på Elland Road ikveld, mot et nyopprykka Leeds. Men altså, det her? Utter shite, som dem sier.

@RobertCorp They run on Openreach so in terms of speed and reliability it will be the same as most of the others, leaving price, support and comms as the only real deciding factors. 10 years ago it was a firm meh from me.

In love with Haaland. Any player who strikes the ball as true as he does yet often opts for back heels & dummies for teammates in better positions = PLAYER. Amazing awareness. Lovely lovely player.

Last weekend all our favourite people gathered for three days of beaches and music and joy and love. One of our best friends married Alex and me in a Greek amphitheatre overlooking the ocean. Simply, the best days of my life. 💙🤍

@J_JHelin @ed_haywood Could it be as simple as Russia lacking other/better options after Plan A and B failed last year? Better to be doing *something*, make it as hard as possible for Ukraine and hope it'll exhaust morale and manpower?

@ed_haywood Considering that the Russians have been building these lines for a year now, and have adjusted to HIMARS surprisingly well in that time. Them not factoring in HIMARS seems weird. Any argument that hinges on the Russians simply being stupid seems a bit flawed.

My problem with this argument is that if the Russians know losing ~15km of ground might force them to withdraw, why focus so much of the preparation efforts so far behind the initial frontline? There are fortifications by the highways down near Melitopol. 1/

"if the Ukrainian army is 90km from the Sea of Azov, and MLRS has a maximum range of 90km but needs to be placed 10km behind the frontline, then the Ukrainians must advance another 10km southward to cover all the terrain between them and the Sea of Azov." cepa.org/article/ukrain…
