The budget I signed into law provides for an additional $125 million for our secondary roads and bridges, in addition to the traditional revenue dedicated from the State Road Fund. This week I will be sitting down with our Transportation team to determine how best to effectively spend that new money to improve our state’s road conditions. We will also be discussing the most effective ways we can stretch our precious taxpayer dollars and make them go further. When I took office, we had one of the worst bridge deficiency ratings in the nation— I’m working to fix that. We are in year two of a four year plan to address this huge problem. We must also fix our potholes and roads. That’s fundamental. The problems we have with our roads didn’t happen overnight but we will be diligent and make progress. Keep the faith!

West Virginians will be able to enjoy some more money in their paychecks very soon. Today, the Legislature passed a 5 percent income tax reduction. This is a start but we will accept the win and then begin efforts to lower income taxes even more in the future! All told, my Administration and the Legislature will end up delivering at least $230 million of tax reductions to West Virginians this year!
