NSC PRESS RELEASE
12 August 2024
Statement of the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea
The National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NT WPS) strongly condemns the irresponsible, unprofessional, illegal and dangerous acts of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) that harassed a Philippine Air Force (PAF) patrol aircraft on August 8 in the skies near Bajo de Masinloc.
Without any provocation or justifiable cause, two (2) PLAAF aircraft conducted dangerous maneuvers in close proximity to a PAF aircraft conducting a routine patrol mission. The PLAA planes deliberately deployed flares near the PAF aircraft, risking the safety of its Filipino crew. The PAF NC-212i aircraft never posed a threat to the PLAAF jets. By launching flares in the flight path of the PAF plane, the PLAAF fighters exhibited hazardous intent.
Just when the waters of the West Philippine Sea seemed to show calm, the
airspace above it was disturbed with acts of aggression. Our pilots and crew responded with focus, restraint, and professionalism, unfazed by the aggressive PLAAF jets.
Thus, we call on the government of the People's Republic of China (PRC) to cease all forms of provocative and hazardous acts that could undermine the safety of Filipino military and civilian personnel in the waters or in the skies, destabilize regional peace, and erode the trust and confidence of the international community in the PRC.
Air and maritime security patrol missions will continue within our sovereign territory, airspace, and Exclusive Economic Zone. The monitoring of our country's airspace will be intensified. Our strong, prepared and highly-motivated Armed Forces will continue sea, afor cyberspace, peting tine and again that ti si acure her regional peace, and stability. ###

New from Office of #Naval #Intelligence (#ONI)!
2024 Recognition & Identification Guides for 1) #China People’s Liberation Army #Navy (PLAN) & 2) China #CoastGuard & Government #Maritime Forces
bit.ly/ONI_OOB
Attention, Attention, Attention—This is not a drill! Don’t miss the #PRC government naval/maritime #ship recognition Order of #Battle (OOB) guides that ONI just released! It’s the first time this unparalleled resource has been publicly updated in 15.5 months… And, for the first time ever, ONI has divided its exquisitely-detailed visual OOB into 2 separate subcomponents:
1) China People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Recognition & Identification Guide
2) China Coast Guard & Government Maritime Forces Recognition & Identification Guide
Bottom line: Unparalleled resource, worth waiting for, must examine now! PRC Navy, Coast Guard, & #MaritimeMilitia forces, etc., all documented authoritatively as *nowhere* else.
Even a quick glance reveals the sheer scope & scale of Beijing’s 3 Sea Forces. The only downside to digesting this #OpenSource/#OSINT cornucopia is that you may need to strengthen your eyeglass prescription to discern the dozens of hull forms & hundreds of pennant numbers…

I just got back from the South China Sea, and Xi Jinping’s words could not be further from the truth.
The CCP is not done in the South China Sea. In fact, they are doubling down on militarizing outposts in the South China Sea.

Qi Jiguang, a 163-m Chinese naval training ship, arrives in Manila for a “friendly” visit. It’s the last leg of a regional tour that included stops in Vietnam, Thailand and Brunei. This is the first time since a PLA Navy ship visited Manila since 2019.

I am grateful to @IISS_org, @jamescrabtree, @ConnellyAL and @chipmanj for giving me the opportunity to pose a question to the Chinese Defense Minister that the Philippines and other nations have been eager to ask:
“You mentioned China wants to promote dialogue over confrontation, so my question is about the apparent disconnect between China’s words and actions related to its maritime interactions with the Philippines and perhaps with others in the region. For example, when President Marcos and President Xi met in Beijing, they agreed to manage differences through peaceful means, and to promote freedom of navigation in and overflight above the South China Sea, and reached consensus on the peaceful resolution of disputes on the basis of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. But in the same month, Filipino fishermen who were simply fishing in Philippine EEZ were harassed and driven away by China Coast Guard. The following month, your Coast Guard directed a military grade laser into @coastguardph vessel inside Philippine EEZ. So while China is talking about dialogue, China’s actions show confrontation. Thus, my question is… why is there a big difference between China’s words and actions?”
