New Closer Ranks!!!
It's the unofficial half way point. What do you all think of the ranks below? We have had some surprises but the top three were pretty much expected.
Lab Ranks (#)🧪
Tier 1 - The Studs (7/14)
1. Mason Miller (#1)
2. Jhoan Duran (#2)
3. Cade Smith (#5)
Same old same old here with two of these guys picking up three saves this week.
Tier 2 - Top of The Line (7/14)
4. Bryan Baker (#7)
5. Josh Hader (#3)
6. Raisel Iglesias (#12)
7. Aroldis Chapman (#13)
8. Louis Varland (#4)
9. Jacob Latz (#6)
10. David Bednar (#10)
11. Andrés Muñoz (#9)
I moved Baker up. He has been growing in the role and looks like a monster in the 9th. Hader is Hader and Iglesias is starting a new save streak.
Tier 3 The Mids (7/14)
12. Trevor Megill (#8)
13. Riley O'Brien (#16)
14. Paul Sewald (#15)
15. Pete Fairbanks (#18)
The top of the mids is pretty much the same but the lower half has been dropped down to sick pups. Really outside of Fairbanks all three of these guys could be up a tier.
Tier 4 The Single Sick Pups (7/14)
16. Emilio Pagán (#22)
17. Devin Williams (#14)
18. Alex Lange (#25)
19. Kenley Jansen (#20)
20. Tanner Scott (#11)
21. Kirby Yates (#27)
22. Yoendrys Gomez (#24)
23. Jacob Webb (#23)
24. Tyler Wells (#26)
25. Jordan Romano (#65)
This is just a brutal group here. Pagán and Williams are bad but look at the rest of the group. Scott is down since he is getting replaced. I listed Gomez, Webb, Wells, and Romano here in stead of in two man groups or committees since I think they see 80% of the chances. What percent they convert is a much different story.
Tier 5 Two Man Sick Pup Groups (7/14)
26. Grant Taylor (#17)
26a. Sean Newcomb (#44)
27. Gregory Soto (#21)
27a. Mason Montgomery (#54)
This group is down since I went with a lot of guys as sick pups. Taylor is right there as the closer and the PIT job is up in the air but I think Soto has the upper hand.
Tier 6 The Swamp (7/14)
28. Erik Miller (#97)
28a. Keaton Winn (N/A)
28b. Caleb Kilian (#19)
29. Clayton Beeter (#29)
29a. PJ Poulin (#73)
29b. Justin Lawrence (#117)
30. Elvis Alvarado (#33)
30a. Hogan Harris (#31)
30b. Mason Barnett (#45)
Total chaos with these three. I think Kilian is out for the Giants so the other two are up next. The Nats get the 29 ranking since they can win and the A's are 30th since they cant.

@GettheSave9th Im confused too, how can D Williams get the win when his team had the lead already when he came into the game. 1 out in the 9th inning

Bullpen Notes 🗒️(4/23)
WSN: Perez and Varland let the game get away in the 7th. Perez started the inning got an out but loaded the bases before Varland came on and let in 4 runs (3 of Perez's) Neither guy offers much in terms of fantasy value but both pitch late in the game.
MIL: The bullpen let them down today. Megill pitched a strong 7th to get a hold. Zerpa gave up a solo home run in the 8th to blow the save and Uribe gave up a solo home run in the 9th to take the loss. It's getting hard to tell if Uribe has "it". We know he has the stuff but his 9th inning success has been mehh. If they leave him in the role I think he can figure it out but they have a proven guy in Megill who has now had a few good outings in a row though he still isn't throwing as hard as he used too. I maintain that Megill will get another shot at the 9th soon and will lead this team in saves. Uribe should not be cut as he is a terrific reliever just might not be a closer.
PHI: Somewhat interesting to see Keller in the 8th and Alvarado in the 9th. Keller did face the tougher hitters and also gave up a home run that put the team down at the time. I still lean Keller as the closer here but it might be more matchup based than anticipated. Alvarado would be the left handed option.
CHC: The 9th inning pain never ends as we saw Caleb Thielbar suffer a likely injury. No word on the severity yet but it sounds like a hamstring. He allowed a game tying home run before exiting. The obvious choice is Ben Brown for the 9th but they have been using him multiple innings. I think it is possible they keep doing that and patch together the 9th for a week or so if Palencia can start throwing this weekend.
COL: Not really an ideal time for a Victor Vodnik meltdown in the 9th but it happened in spectacular fashion. 1st five guys he faced reached base and the last hit a three run homer. He did strike a guy out before getting the hook. This is the type of outing that will plaque old Vodnik and it is why it is always going to be a gamble rostering him. The other bad news for him was Seth Halvorsen was called up and pitched in the 6th. He had the job last year so the pressure could be ramping up here.
ARI: They used Sewald in the top of the 9th with the game tied (Closers spot). It did not go well as he allowed a couple walks and a three run homer. Sewald has great numbers when he is called on for a save opportunity and poor numbers when the game is tied or they are down. You'll see some non-ball knowers questioning why he was in due to his struggles against LHB but remember ARI doesn't have a LHP in the bullpen. No change in his role though Morillo did pitch well again and I would think he is next in line if something were to happen to Sewald.
CWS: Win for Grant Taylor and a save for Dominguez. This was good Dominguez pitching a clean inning so don't be shocked if next time out he looks like Vodnik did tonight.
LAD: We got some insight on the LAD bullpen tonight in the 9th inning with Tanner Scott picking up the save. He had no issue and continues to look great. As I have been saying it is his job to lose (I think he loses it). Tonight was a nice start as they called on him with the entire bullpen fresh. If Scott is available I would be out there adding him and if he is not you could always add Vesia and hope last years version of Scott show up again.
BOS: Tough loss and series sweep for BOS. Danny Coulombe took the L today blowing the game in the 7th. He was solid last year but might not have it anymore just like the Red Sox. You can cut him if you have him for holds.
NYM: They managed to hold on despite some horrible bullpen play in the last two innings. With a 7-3 lead they decided to use Craig Kimbrel in the 8th. Yes that Craig Kimbrel. He struggled and loaded the bases before being pulled for Brazoban who allowed a game tying grand slam. Fortunately they tacked on three in the bottom of the 8th giving High Lev Dev what should have been an easy save opportunity. Instead as they played Williams walk on music Brazzy came back out to the mound and caused it to no longer be a save opportunity. The good news for WIlliams was he got a win the bad news was it wasn't clean. Two quick outs followed by a couple singles a run and a double before a game ending K. It Williams is walking on thin ice. Weaver likely had the night off after going 1.1IP last night. I would not be resting easily if I had High Lev Dev on my squad though he seems like he is still the closer. Weaver should be added if you're hunting saves.
TEX: Collyer pitched in the 6th and made more of a mess but got the final out. Junis pitched the 8th. They were ahead 6-1 while both guys were in. Somewhat odd usage but the bullpen has been very odd all year. Junis and Latz still most likely to see a save chance.
