@Bdubbs76 @FreedomFinLB Investment returns aren’t always guaranteed, we could have another lost decade and that would suck for me not seeing my money grow

If you have a mortgage with a 6.49% - are you paying extra towards principal? I do an extra 10% of my payment towards principal at that rate, as a hedge against stagnant interest rates and additional downside protection. Appreciate your thoughts and comments

My current ETF focus: Growth: $SCHG Core: $VOO Quality: $CGDV Div + Growth: $FDVV Div + Value: $SCHD International: $VYMI Chip/AI: $SMH Each one has a role. Different strengths, different environments. I’m not trying to pick one winner. I’m building a portfolio that can show up in any market. Which piece of your portfolio are you leaning on most right now? 🤔

When it comes to investing philosophy, I take a little guidance from Bruce Lee. “Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.” That’s how I’ve shaped my approach. I don’t commit to just one style. I learn from growth, value, and dividend strategies, then build a portfolio that blends them together. Growth pushes the ceiling. Dividends and value build the foundation. That balance just makes sense to me. What’s your style right now… growth, dividends, or a mix? 🤔

FIRE is terrible. Don’t waste your 20s and 30s saving every single penny and never having any experiences. Foster relationships now. Go out on dates. Go on road trips and camp outs. Try out a cruise, you may even enjoy it. Go have experiences with friends. My oldest brother that I talk to frequently is a surgeon, believe me, there are no guarantees in life. You have no clue how your health will hold up over time. It’s crazy to me that a group of people will throw away their 20s and 30s in hope that there’s some magical happy point in their 40s. It’s very misguided.

@joecarlsonshow Allow me to disagree. People should do what their hearts tell them. I decided on FIRE when I was 17 and retired at 46. Life gave me all I needed, happiness in the simple (and cheap) things. I learned the value of my time and money. And I have plenty of life ahead of me. Cheers!🍻

@ConnerBean Me and my wife have been in our first home condo for a year and a half, rate 6.1% we are paying this off aggressively, we signed at 220k and now we have 168k left to pay, so I’m on the boat on not having all my money go all to interest for 30 years

Paying off mortgages early is one of those things where I respect and acknowledge the math, but the math doesn't take into account the psychological benefits of not owing money to anybody and owning your house outright
The Money Cruncher, CPA@money_cruncher

My coworker has a 1.99% mortgage. That is something you should NEVER pay off early. Inflation is at least 3%/yr. Why would anyone pay that off aggressively? It makes absolutely 0 sense.

@BrattoBiz Here I thought Roths were better, I maxed mine for the first time this year and invest in the rest in my taxable, I have left my 401k alone this year

The people who push Roth IRAs extremely hard tend to be late bloomers in the finance space, think 25+ They were told by other late bloomers that this is a tax-free account and will make you wealthy. It’s a cope-mobile. Most have no idea how the account actually works or affects your taxes, including when you die. The only reasons to have a Roth IRA are 1. To hedge against future income tax rate hikes 2. You’re a trader trying to cash out on massive gains after 60+ Both require a magic 8-ball. Most people are better off maxing a traditional 401(k) and putting the rest in a taxable brokerage account, real estate, and private biz as most will pay a lower effective tax rate in retirement versus paying their higher marginal rate now. Those in low brackets where Roth makes sense can just invest in a taxable brokerage account and pay $0 in taxes until their income rises. But once their income rises, they will be better off taking the pretax deduction on the 401(k).
