@TazLuschwitz Absolutely! A great practice to have the school as a central community point for the recycling to be brought to as well.

@BellaWightman Teachers would complete the task of recycling cans and bottles that students collect. Though that doesn't limit the students engaging and encouraging the wider community to do their part when it comes to recycling.

Wanting to encourage your school community to engage in sustainable practices? Why not introduce Return and Earn. Not only will it raise funds for your school but reduce the amount of plastics entering our oceans. #educ4750 #UoNteach

@elliotchapman99 I am looking into working with @Feedbackorganic for Ss to gain knowledge about circular economies and gardening skills. I also planning to work with local high school Ss doing TAS courses to develop our garden, and with Bunnings & Wildflower Nursery for resources and support.

@BellaWightman This is a great plan! By integrating community assets you are sure to guarantee genuine learning experiences. What community assets are you implementing into your project?

Through #PBL and utilising community assets, we can help Ss to develop global competence and take action in regards to the #SDGs. Ss agency in our project working towards #ZeroHunger is a key factor to ensure genuine learning. #educ4750 #UoNTeach

I have been looking for a way to plan out our school garden in a way that allows for Ss to alter their designs as they learn more about sustainable practices and gardening. Thank you for sharing! Using ICT to augment this task enhances S learning (SAMR Model - Terada, 2020).

@BellaWightman These community assets widen the scope of initiatives that are available to students in my integrated project. They could develop their own worm farm/compost at home or begin a waste audit at school.

The Newcastle Council have a great range of resources that encourage students to take sustainable action. These include a trip to the Summerhill Waste Management Centre, a presentation on sustainable waste management, and these free resources. #UoNTeach #educ4750

Thank you for sharing @HannahTiedeman! The use of statistics and graphics makes this video very accessible to Ss, but I also love the way it ends with a message of hope. How can we #inspire young people to #take action? #UoNTeach #educ4750

This is an amazing video and very engaging for students! This is a great way to get to share some of the eye opening facts about #SDG2 #UoNTeach #educ4750 youtube.com/watch?v=iteCyt…

I will be using this student-friendly resource to explore #foodsecurity as we create a school garden. Why is our global food system not sustainable? What can we do? Empowering Ss through #PBL so they can work towards answering these Q's & take action. #SD2 #educ4750 #UoNTeach

Values-driven planning of integrated units of work are an effective way to teach global education. As 21st Century citizens, we need to help Ss develop the tools to take action and shape a better future (Commonwealth of Australia, 2011).#sustainabledevelopment #educ4750 #UoNTeach

@BellaWightman Students will compare the figures displayed on the map to the country they live in today. They can then further research some possible projects put into place to help these countries in need.

This live hunger map is a great way to include ICT within the classroom. My year 6 students will utilise this app to help them visualise and navigate the effects of hunger around the world. #SDG2 #uonteach #educ4750 hungermap.wfp.org

Thank you for sharing! In a cross-curricula unit focusing on #SDG2, Ss can use repurposed materials to promote recycling whilst also getting creative. Materials could be collected/donated from the #community and be used in the design and signposting of the school garden.#educ4750

"In 2020 alone, 2.37 BILLION people were without food or were unable to eat a healthy balanced diet on a regular basis" (UN Food Systems Summit, 2021). #ServiceLearning - a school vegetable garden can feed the community and provide valuable cross-KLA learning for Ss #educ4750

@samjl138 A great planning choice that can be accompanied by flexible content to ensure students have #agency and can drive the inquiry process. How else can be encourage collaboration in the classroom?

You've got your content sorted, but are you prepared to engage all Ss in your classroom? According to Hemyari et al. (2013), seating arrangement is linked to S engagement. In my #SDG15 unit, I will be arranging my Ss into groups to initiate collaboration! #UoNTeach #educ4750

@MissCheyaLee @HannahTiedeman Thank you for sharing this - building on and discovering resources together! Do you think each of the books are relevant to #SDG2? I would be interesting to explore the relationships between these issues and world hunger.

@HannahTiedeman I just had a look at this book and there is actually 4 that talk about different world issues and they sit together nicely. These look like a great way to introduce some of the vocabulary of #sdg2 to students. #UoNteach

This is such a beautiful picture book that explores what poverty and hunger are and how they affect children all over the world. This would really get students thinking about what they could do to help stop big issues like these. #UoNTeach #educ4750 #SDG2
Hollie Segalla@Hollie_Segalla

What a great resource to talk about big social issues with students. Poverty and Hunger by Louise Spilsbury and Hanane Kai beautifully convey how these tough issues affect people all over the world. What are your go-to resources for big issues? #educ4750 #UoNTeach #SDG1 #SDG2

@samjl138 Perhaps with the intensification of teachers work as found by the Gallop Inquiry (NSW TF, 2021), the perceived workload associated with PBL is off putting for teachers. How can schools and other stakeholders support teachers to use PBL?

Students are able to gain a greater understanding of content knowledge and group work skills through Project Based Learning (Kaldi et al., 2011). However, study shows that #PBL is a less favourable approach to teaching. Why do you think this is?🤔 #UoNTeach #educ4750
