@SethWalder Alternatively it means that the league is biased towards giving big contracts to certain positions regardless of actual value. Or some combination of the two.

This is the 2025 version of this chart (not sure if Ben updated this year) but it's one of my favorite football charts, period. This demonstrates the league does not sufficiently price in positional value in the draft. If it did, these lines would be roughly the same.

Annual update of my post on draft curves. This uses 2nd contract value to estimate the value of each draft pick, including by position. This update incorporates the 2020 draft class, which saw some huge hits at WR including Lamb, Jefferson, and Aiyuk. opensourcefootball.com/posts/2023-02-…

I'm releasing a demo of a clock management simulator app for a limited time. This is something I built for myself to build up my clock management intuitions when I'm on our Playbook simulcast for MNF. espnanalytics.com/clock_sim/

Jayson Tatum's return effectively increases the Celtics' chances at the 2-seed. There probably will be some time needed to get used to him, as based on the work @BenCAlamar and I did at last year's Sloan Conference (whose 2026 version starts tomorrow). espn.com/nba/story/_/id…

@Rylan_Stiles I was working with the Thunder when they drafted DeVon Hardin - 18 years ago - I get the feeling that he is not gonna pan out

Great questions/points! - we dont know when the snap is supposed to happen (relative to start of motion), BUT we guess it given context (down, play clock, etc) & motion type (using NextGen Stats tracking data) - QBs / teams that vary more around this guess are more unpredictable
Kurt Warner@kurt13warner

Explain this to me a little more in depth… what does this mean? How is this correlated to each given motion? Do they sometimes let player come to stop? Snap the ball early - whatever that means? How do u know where QB is supposed to snap ball & how do u determine unpredictability?

The F5 and @owenlhjphillips have done a number of interviews with people who have made a difference in basketball analytics. His latest is with Seth Partnow (with links to others at the bottom, including one I did). Always interesting reads. thef5.substack.com/p/shooting-the…

Mike Tannenbaum is talking on Get Up about how it's important for Matthew Stafford to practice with his receivers. @BenCAlamar and I looked at the value of familiarity between passers and shooters in basketball (for #research-papers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">sloansportsconference.com/conference/202…) and that value is BIG.
