1) In our meta-analysis with parametric cure modelling, involving 3,699 participants in 18 studies worldwide, an estimated 15 mil and 12 mil adults may have persistent smell👃and taste👅dysfunction after COVID-19. Here's a quick summary and guide on what to do if you're affected:

In a real-world meta-analysis, N=1.6 mil. Isotretinoin users don't have higher risks of suicide or psychiatric disorders, compared to non-users. They have lower risk of attempted suicide at 2-5 years post-treatment. @NicoleTanKW @BenjaminKJTan ja.ma/411GOWP

Very interesting: Hearing aids and cochlear implants seem to reduce cognitive decline and dementia in older adults with hearing loss. (N = 137,484) doi.org/10.1001/jamane…

Thank you also to @jsgolub for the valuable commentary! With the recent creation of over-the-counter hearing aids led by @DrFrankRLin, access to hearing loss treatment will continue to improve.

@NEJM The same magnitude of benefit was seen for patients who started with normal cognition and those with mild cognitive impairment. So it's never too late to treat hearing loss—the benefits accrue over time. Many thanks to @brianyeosy @Harris_Song_JJ @reshmaamerchant and all authors!

#lecanemab in @NEJM has gained fame last week for #Alzheimer's disease. But you could get a similar 20% benefit by treating your #hearingloss with #hearingaids, without the 20% risk of brain swelling/micro-bleeds. Our analysis of 31 studies with >130k patients over 2-25 yrs below

In this meta-analysis, #HearingAid and #CochlearImplant use was associated with a decreased risk of subsequent #CognitiveDecline. @BenjaminKJTan @brianyeosy @Harris_Song_JJ @reshmaamerchant ja.ma/3FrsmOv

Our recently published meta-analysis found that the use of acid suppressants in early life increases the risk of allergic disorders in childhood. We urge judicious use of acid suppressants, only according to established guidelines and indications, to mitigate this risk.

It’s sad that @HelenRSalisbury needed to write this in the @bmj_latest, but she’s right, it has to be repeated. On fining people for missed appointments. “This is a way to bake in inequalities: punching down, rather than levelling up” Link if preferred: bmj.com/content/378/bm…
