Ruiz should not have been shot inasmuch as, given that astonishing record, he should not have been wandering free. Had he been appropriately incarcerated, he would not have been able to try a knife attack on a cop, and he'd be alive right now.

The contrast is telling. Tiffany doesn't assume an ideological position and claim there's nothing to see here. He calls for a careful, thorough and independent investigation. That's what serious leaders do. They don't shout uninformed provocations into bullhorns.

When I served in the state Legislature, we established the nation’s first statewide law requiring transparent, independent investigations of police-involved deaths. We should allow that process to establish the facts without politicians rushing to judgment or stoking division. As governor, I will lead Wisconsin with a steady hand, let the facts guide accountability, and work to end revolving-door criminal justice policies.

The shooting that occurred in Madison was a heartbreaking incident. It is difficult to see something like this happen so close to home. My thoughts are with the family of Corey Ruiz who lost his life.
We are attempting to get additional information about the occurrence, as are many in the community. We need a thorough, transparent investigation to determine exactly what happened, ensure accountability, and prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
I, like many, have serious concerns and I respect all who peacefully speak their First Amendment rights.

Unbelievably reckless statement from @MayorOfMadison. How would you know police policy caused this? How would you know to exonerate a career felon (since 2007) who slashed a police officer with a fixed-blade knife? ALL the evidence is to the contrary. So how did you decide to make these statements?
