The calls for a Royal Commission into #antisemitism post #Bondi is partly about an opportunity for the #Israel lobby to air its grievances against any government or community support for #Palestinians
A very powerful retirement press conference. It was about @Uz_Khawaja’s cricket career but was an incredible window into what it is to be a brown person in a largely white environment. You start with trying to fit in but then realise it’s more about being accepted for who you are
Maybe someone from Cricket Australia could explain to my ten year old why they can’t prepare a proper test match wicket. He’s been looking forward to his day at the MCG for months. Gutted.

A Victorian councillor has sparked fury for her “deeply disrespectful” decision to wear a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf while her council expressed its sympathy for victims of the Bondi terror attack. > bit.ly/4s4pzkM
Today I convened National Cabinet to respond to the act of terror and antisemitism in Bondi last night.
We stand with Jewish Australians and we stand against hatred and violence.
Australia is stronger than those who try to divide us and we will come through this together.
An intensely devastating and horrific day here in Sydney, and for a very close Bondi community, a place where I spent over 10 years with my young family, and had only just left earlier this evening.
One of the worst atrocities we have experienced as a country for a very long time, and our hearts are broken in two.
My love goes out to everyone affected by this heinous act of violence, and particularly our Bondi Jewish community who were targeted and all other families and their loved ones affected.
Thankyou to NSW police and first responders who put themselves in harm’s way, after the Bondi Junction stabbings they once again showed their bravery and protection of community, to everyone who helped, and to the absolute bloody legends who acted to save their fellow Aussies.
Unbelievable courage in the face of unspeakable violence.
The type of extraordinarily selfless acts that Australians can always be counted on to provide for others. You make us proud to be Australian, at a time when there is only intense pain and anguish, tonight.
Australians always pull together in times of crisis and support each other, and many families will need our support now and in coming weeks and months.
Thanks to everyone who helped, you are angels, and all my love to our fellow Aussies impacted.
Tonight and over the coming days, we are holding the Jewish community close.
For the 8 nights of Chanukah, Jewish families around the world fill their windows with light - something that has been passed down through generations.
Tonight, I am lighting a candle in solidarity with the Australian Jewish community.
Because when antisemitism and hate rears its ugly head, we don’t shy away.
We will confront the darkness with light. Together.
