@dtweetsss1 @razemfrazem @Teslarati Gotcha. We had a few instances in Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska where we could have easily driven another 50 miles, but skipping the charger we were coming up on meant driving another 75-100 miles to the next one. Made timing less than ideal. But that was 3 years ago.

@BillJr212 @razemfrazem @Teslarati There was an abundance of superchargers I actually skipped over but it was cold weather that got me with range. Iowa was the only place superchargers got thin.

@dtweetsss1 @razemfrazem @Teslarati Location has a lot of influence you wouldn't immediately think of. I agree the great plains States are tougher. The combination of high speeds, high winds, & slightly thin supercharging options mean you often stop early. Traveling between the Midwest and SE is much easier.

@kylecordes @MikeCalcara Right. This is a head scratcher. Lives in an apartment downtown but drives 90 miles each way to work. I've known people that have done the "reverse commute" thing to live in the city, but this would be extreme.

@MikeCalcara I enjoy your posts, but this one seems pretty fake. It involves a person who is precisely the wrong person to buy an EV, who somehow decided to buy an EV, and was also aware enough to go consult an expert first, but not aware enough to learn anything at all about EVs.

A client came to me last month dead set on a Tesla Model Y. Before we pulled the trigger, I asked him a few questions. Where do you live? An apartment downtown. No dedicated charging spot. A couple of shared chargers in the garage that are almost always taken by the time he gets home at night. How long is your commute? About 180 miles round trip, 3 days a week. Do you take road trips? Every few months. About 400 miles each way to see family. Think about what that actually looks like day to day. He gets home after a long day, pulls into the garage, and the two shared chargers are taken. Again. So he goes to bed with whatever charge he has left. He wakes up, checks his range, and hopes it's enough for the day. No charging at work either. An EV works best when you're able to charge consistently. For him, it would've been a daily inconvenience at best and a stranded car at worst. He actually needed a plug-in hybrid. Electric for the short days, gas for the road trips. He ended up in a Toyota RAV4 Prime. Loves it. This happens a lot simply because people don't have the time to research different types of vehicles. So I put together a full breakdown that takes less than 5 minutes to read. Gas vs. Hybrid vs. Electric. With real numbers on fuel costs, maintenance, depreciation, and total cost of ownership across all three. Comment COMPARE below and I'll send it to you. Make sure you're following me so the DM goes through.

@MarketPalmer_ @WallStSimple $30 gets you a decent quality indoor/outdoor ball. Great for having at home. These are much higher quality, indoor only game balls and they last a long time (as long as you don't destroy them by using on your concrete driveway).

@TS_Secrets We have found the trick w/ long drives is make sure you're doing something new/interesting along the way. Visit a new city, find cool restaurants or tourist spots. Essentially, take advantage of the opportunity that driving gives you to see places between home & the destination.

Serious question for families… How many hours do you drive before you just fly? We drove 16 hours yesterday and I’m absolutely exhausted. Halfway through I was thinking: “Why didn’t we just book the flights?” My rule has always been: If it’s under 8 hours we drive. If it’s over 8 hours we fly. But flights for a family aren’t cheap and the TSA Deal worried me, so sometimes the road trip wins. The math in my head usually looks like this: Drive: • Gas 4 times • Snacks • A hotel sometimes • 2 full days of travel Fly: • Expensive tickets • Airport chaos • Rental car But you arrive in a few hours instead of two days. Yesterday reminded me… 16 hours in a car with kids feels like 40. Curious where everyone draws the line. What’s your rule? How many hours before you stop driving and start flying?

@tavi_chocochip @hey_chobani @AIDRIVR Would be interesting to see the full view of what the fender camera can see. Given the mounting point and angle, it should be able to see cross traffic fairly well compared to a driver. The framing we get in the recordings and blind spot view is cropped.

No. The reason it worked in this particular scenario is bc there was side visibility of the cross traffic between the parked cars. In many other situations the side visibility is zero until you get into the intersection. Human drivers inch their cars up and lean forward to check the cross traffic. The location and view angle of the cameras on Tesla cars doesn’t allow that, and it forces the car to slowly move into the intersection and sometimes turn to let the repeater camera properly see the cross road.

@shawngorham Is this a place with no building permits or code? Seems like it would be a danger for a firefighter if they ever had to step on the roof. (Complete layman here, but I remember when I put solar on, code was very specific about walking paths for firemen)

@XFTDG_ @ChiBearsMuse Counterpoint: The D Rose years were pretty great until they were unfortunately cut short. Wrigley is an experience no matter what the Cubs are doing and so is Soldier Field. The Bears haven't had much overall success, but certainly make the games interesting right to the end.

@ChiBearsMuse Chicago sports is poverty. Bulls have nothing outside of the Jordan years, white Sox, cubs, and bears get one playoff appearance every now and then, and the blackhawks only got the dynasty from 2010-15.

NEWS: NVIDIA just announced Alpamayo, what CEO Jensen Huang calls the world’s first thinking, reasoning autonomous vehicle AI, launching on U.S. roads later this year, starting with the Mercedes CLA. Jensen: "It's trained end-to-end. Literally from camera in to actuation out; It reasons what action it is about to take, the reason by which is came about that action, and the trajectory." Alpamayo introduces Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, which enable self-driving systems to interpret what they see, reason about complex driving scenarios, and generate driving actions. The platform includes large reasoning models, simulation tools for testing rare and edge-case scenarios, and open datasets for training and validation. NVIDIA says the approach improves transparency, safety, and robustness in autonomous systems, particularly in complex real-world environments, and supports progress toward higher levels of vehicle autonomy: "With a 10-billion-parameter architecture, Alpamayo 1 uses video input to generate trajectories alongside reasoning traces, showing the logic behind each decision. Developers can adapt Alpamayo 1 into smaller runtime models for vehicle development, or use it as a foundation for AV development tools such as reasoning-based evaluators and auto-labeling systems. Alpamayo 1 provides open model weights and open-source inferencing scripts. Future models in the family will feature larger parameter counts, more detailed reasoning capabilities, more input and output flexibility, and options for commercial usage."

@fawfulfan The last thing we need is the govt to explain to business how to round. They would spend an obscene amount of time & still find a way to mess it up. DQ has to explain it this way because the avg customer is too dumb to understand "we round to the nearest $0.05."

While I agree with the Trump administration's move to discontinue the penny, they should have issued some guidance to businesses on how to round penny transactions. Every business is making up its own convoluted rules and it's potentially going to be a mess.

@BeatGreatFilter @kneubuehl Disabling ABS is a common approach used by off-road drivers on loose surfaces. It helps build a little pile in front of the tires to essentially dig in and come to a stop. I remember pulling the fuse regularly before a day off road in certain conditions.

@kneubuehl I don't buy anyone can stop faster than modern ABS. It's not happening. A computer can do that job better than a human for a multitude but of reason I won't go into here. Mostly because we don't have the data, but also because our brains are horrendously slow to react.

@nevmed I've had some luck on the navigation issue where if I want to turn earlier, I just flip the blinker on and it will take that turn then the re-route typically ends up being what I wanted in the first place. Obviously not fool proof, but cuts out a portion of the issues.

Two reasons I disengage from Tesla FSD (HW4): 1.) I want FSD to take a diff route than suggested. Potential easy solution in the video: Just let me "draw" the route I wanna take. 2.) The full-stop at stop signs. I tap the accelerator when using FSD to do a rolling stop which is way more natural. The NHTSA made Tesla do the full-stop thing in 2022 and it's just annoying, especially when driving through a neighborhood with tons of stop signs. Those seem to be last remaining reasons why I disengage FSD (other than to just drive myself for fun)! @Tesla - @elonmusk - @aelluswamy

@bgcts I read an article a while back about a similar trend in classic cars. As the gen that grew up with a given era of classic cars passes, the value of those cars can rapidly fall off. Example: how the cars of the 20's gave way to the muscle car as the default cruise night favorite.
