Hot take about Star Citizen… @RobertsSpaceInd A lot of the “shoot on sight” culture in the verse isn’t because players want to play that way. It’s because we have no reliable way to communicate before the bullets start flying. Think about it. You jump to a location. Another ship appears on radar. You have seconds to decide what to do. Are they friendly? Are they pirates? Do they need help? Do they want to trade? Are they about to board you? Right now the safest play is simple: shoot first. Not because people want PvP every time… but because we lack meaningful social tools to create interaction first. This is where better VOIP and communication systems could completely change the verse. Imagine if: • Proximity VOIP worked reliably • We had quick comms like “Friendly”, “Need Help”, “Trade?”, or “Stand Down” • Ships could broadcast intent before engaging • Boarding situations had actual negotiation moments instead of instant gunfire Suddenly the verse becomes something way more interesting. Pirates could roleplay piracy instead of just deleting ships. Haulers could negotiate instead of instantly fighting or dying. Random encounters could turn into stories instead of wreckage. Right now Star Citizen has one of the most ambitious sandboxes ever built. But sandboxes only work when the players can actually talk to each other. If CIG really wants the verse to feel alive, social systems need to evolve just as much as ships and weapons. Because the best moments in Star Citizen are not the explosions.
