@BitcoinBertie

You see flags. You see names. You make assumptions. Oh, and if Mastodon and Bluesky were any good, you’d be there. Not here, reading this.

Building *only* social housing is perfectly possible (private housebuilders can build it for you if you like). But it requires around £100,000 subsidy per new home. I'd quite like to see the Green Party's plans for how to fund it.

"The unrealistic thing is to expect property developers.. to build us out of this crisis.. what we really need is a party.. who say we need to build social housing, council housing.. it will require intervention [&] thats absolutely what we must do" @ZackPolanski yesterday

@BitcoinBertie @shivmalik @AnnaClarke_____ It’s over 150 years old. And in central London. You want to build in central London? Go for it, we need homes there. You want to ruin what’s left of the countryside and biodiversity by building cheap ugly crappy estates that will inevitably be the next building scandal? Trot on.

@BitcoinBertie @shivmalik @AnnaClarke_____ No, what’s wild is wanting to build on all our green fields and spaces. And somehow thinking the taxpayer is ultimately funding it. For people who don’t pay for their own housing.

@graeme_cobb That is a cracking deal and a fantastic car. However, in my view, this only makes sense as a company car as a Director. Even salary sacrifice to pay for this is a bad move in my opinion. If you can't afford to pay cash, you can't afford the car. x.com/GrahamCompton/…

Financial Independence rule #1: Spend less than you earn. Unless you can do this, you are guaranteed to be headed in the wrong direction. To achieve this, you can only do two things: 1. Increase your earnings. 2. Cut your spending. Which one are you focussing on today? 👇

The bystander at the end 😭💀 A massive Met Police operation took place in Kilburn yesterday, completely clearing the streets of uninsured mopeds, illegal electric scooters, and modified e-bikes. They literally brought a massive flatbed truck to tow them all away! 🚨🛵 While a lot of Londoners are sick of e-bikes flying down the pavements, others think the police should be focusing their resources on bigger crimes. Do you agree with this crackdown, or should they be focusing elsewhere? Let us know your thoughts below!

I’m convinced there’s an opportunity to build many smaller reservoirs using fast modern techniques (autonomation, DFM, rock banks, TBMs) to make them modular, collapse the cost and timelines and lease them to water companies and farms. particularly in the UK and US. @BitcoinBertie ?

Many of us familiar with high performance computing (whether AI, Bitcoin, or a bit of both) have been warning about this for a while. But being right doesn't make this any more palatable. We HAVE to get serious about the UK's energy infrastructure, and start listening to engineers, not to policy wonks. We're a country where firms like @RenewaBlox , seeking to monetize stranded energy and reduce our power costs, are a rarity; we should make them the norm.

@peterkyle We absolutely cannot afford AI (or frankly any other industry) as long as this remains true. Focus on fixing energy first. Then everything else follows.

This is not talked about enough by Westminster. Britain's colossal energy prices destroyed our industries. Now, they're preventing growing industries from scaling here. Access to cheap energy shaped the industrial powers of the past. Access to cheap energy now will shape the AI superpowers of the future. Technological advancements are rapid. Why aren't our politicians doing all they can to support the growth of future industries?

@MPrinParr I don't think local government in England really does have this power for two reasons, defined in UK law. 1/ Planning permission is highly separated from local government politics. 2/ Despite some recent changes, the old "Hope Value" rules apply which blocks land acquisitions.

every level of UK gov is silly. they have the ability to make money from nothing, simply by granting planning permission on land they already own, thereby increasing the value of the land on their balance sheet. 10x this by granting permissions for link infrastructure that connects their land. they can the sell the adjacent land for more money / develop it and sell it and use that cash to build the infra. rinse repeat. we used to do this Hong Kong all the time. HK still does it m, and so does Japan.

£179,000,000 was spent on the Stonehenge tunnel. So, where is it? Well, there is no tunnel. The only thing £179,000,000 produced was paperwork. That's it. Do you think this an acceptable use of taxpayers money?

He’s great on loads of stuff as well as being a funny poster / troll. Blocked me (I think) a few years back for insisting migration control before supply side reform on housing was the more sensible politics. Obviously he can block who he wants but it’s just a shame when he’s on form and in the trenches (like today) and I can’t aggressively agree with him.
