@ChrisP33247010 @snevinoj @BobFromAccounts Hey Chris! I think this is one of those things that is often easier to show, rather than explain over the Twitter void. Would love to come to your hometown this summer and we can go for a ride, chat like people, and maybe grab some pints after :)

@snevinoj @Blade_94 @BobFromAccounts But when you have class 1 vehicles with full high heavy trailers on both sides of the road , where would you Cycle on the main road with all the heavy traffic or on the designated Cycle Path ? Costing £££££ to set up to make cycling safe along that stretch of road?

@ChrisP33247010 @snevinoj @BobFromAccounts Yeah I don't ride on the A roads if I can help it! To give context, a lot of cyclists don't like riding on the "mixed" paths because it means conflict with cars at *every* junction whereas main road has right of way. But just because main road is legal doesn't mean it's wise!

@Blade_94 @snevinoj @BobFromAccounts The original one I witnessed in my home town, but the one you've just seen was posted by someone else. Where I'm from the main road is used by heavy military vehicles and there is a cycle and walkway combined, but some cyclists will still use the road, they have a death wish !

@ChrisP33247010 @snevinoj @BobFromAccounts The rear car didn't "swerve" into the other car. The rear car was following too closely and/or as distracted as the cyclist. I'm not disputing that here the cyclist was partially at fault (as that street isn't contraflow), but the video also doesn't prove your point?

🚖 Black cab drivers say road restrictions, LTNs and 20mph limits are turning London into an impossible place to work, with some quitting the trade altogether So what is currently the fastest means to get around in the capital, walking or taking a taxi? We've put this to the test, and unpacked all the reasons the taxi drivers might be struggling here ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/03/2…

@ChrisP33247010 @snevinoj @BobFromAccounts Okay but you used "crashes" (plural) and described the number of said "crashes" (plural) as "unreal!" One-way could have been contraflow for cyclists, and riding against a one-way isn't even a criminal offence anymore :) Sounds like the driver overcorrected.

@snevinoj @Blade_94 @BobFromAccounts A just eat rider pulled out from a one way street listening to headphones, in front of a car, the car driver swerved to avoid the cyclist scraping a car that was coming in the other direction. And of course the delivery rider rode off! And the police were called!! You prick!

@ChrisP33247010 @BobFromAccounts Yeah I looked for the data but couldn't find it. Casualties get measured because, in a complete surprise, policymakers care more about that than property damage. I suspect your number is "unreal" because it isn't real. "Cyclists who are not concentrating" is REALLY not a thing.

@Blade_94 @BobFromAccounts More accidents are caused by cyclists not paying attention and not concentrating whilst listening 🎧 and texting whilst cycling. And do they get prosecuted? Do they hell I say all bikes should display a reg number so they can be identified and fined !

@GSpellchecker I am sympathetic to this woman and her asthma. She should have her GP aid her in applying for a blue badge if it is such that she really can't walk that far. With the blue badge, the council could then create a designated space for her. There is generally a solution.

You'd be amazed how many endless feuds this causes with neighbours in Britain. There are two types of people. Those who just park where there is space. And those that think they own the bit of public road closest to their house and make life hell for everyone else.

@PetikPRG @fifeenv @BobFromAccounts "Vehicle excise duty" is actually a tax on *motor* vehicles *with engines* above a certain threshold. So, no, there is no tax on a bike's engine that it doesn't have. Beer is heavily taxed in this country and we cyclists are happy to fulfill our civic duty.

@fifeenv @BobFromAccounts Is there any kind of Vehicle Excise Duty for cyclists? And what kind of fuel do the cyclists use that they have to pay fuel duty? Beer?🤣🤡 VAT is not related to use of roads.

@BenGrahamUK Slower vehicle speeds exponentially decrease damage to road surfaces. 20 mph will also mean fewer potholes, and the ones that do form won't grow as quickly as strikes will carry half the force despite a 1/3 drop in speed.

Another shocking example of public money misuse: Hertfordshire County Council is planning to spend £1.5 million to push 20 mph limits on over half of urban roads. Instead of fixing potholes or investing in real safety measures, taxpayers are funding blanket speed zones. Supporters argue it improves safety and encourages walking/cycling, but drivers are frustrated by congestion and slower commutes. £1.5m could go much further improving actual infrastructure: repairing roads, upgrading crossings, or targeting high risk areas.

@BenGrahamUK @colwyn0077668 @speed_whisky So we should just rip out all the zebra crossings too, eh? "I'm in the big metal box so I'm right and you're wrong." It amazes me that you would contradict the contents of highway code (vehicles must often give way to pedestrians) and "common sense" in the same argument.

@colwyn0077668 @speed_whisky I agree, we learn the highway code at a young age in Britain, I was about 4-5 years old. My 7-8 you should be competent crossing a road. It's pretty simple, stay off the road if a car is coming. Common sense.

@JohnJohnStewart @andykn101 I think that you are conflating travel speed with congestion. Studies show that cyclists reduce travel speed, but that there aren't measurable effects on network travel times. Every person on a bike as a commuter that is no longer in a car. Result is less congestion, not more.

The biggest transport problem is London's congested streets, costing the economy billions. Congestion needs to be eased so that those dependent on their cars for their livelihood - tradespeople, cabbies, carers, delivery drivers etc - can go about their business. That requires a more convenient and much cheaper public transport system that attracts both drivers and cyclists. Some of it would be costly but the financial returns in terms of savings to business would be huge.

I predict London will continue to have the most congested streets in Europe (costing business billions each year), some of the highest fares in Europe, average bus speeds barely reaching 9mph......and you want to widen cycle lanes.
Bob From Accounts 🚲@BobFromAccounts

At the current rate, I predict this summer will surpass all records for cycling in London; it seems we will need bigger and better bike lanes @MayorofLondon @willnorman. Please note the lack of Lycra.

@JohnJohnStewart @andykn101 No one is suggesting a protected bike lane from Liverpool Street to Milton Keynes, mate. We can have cycleways AND trains. Are you only interested in infrastructure that costs billions per mile and forces people 100m underground? Seems like you just want folks out of your way.

@JohnJohnStewart @andykn101 Well, daily cycle journeys are now approaching close to half of daily tube journeys. Bike lanes cost money, absolutely, but the cost to the state is so much lower, and the commuter isn't constrained to nodes. It's door to door. Why are they mutually exclusive?

@ThinkLicence ASL’s aren’t enforceable. The primary ‘Stop’ line has to be a certain distance from the position of the ATS. To accommodate an ASL the ‘Stop’ line is moved towards the approaching traffic. This reduces the stopping distance and it is no longer a legally enforceable stop line.

I am not vindictive, and have the rich embarrassment of another three police reports to consider tonight, so I shall let the city council have a word with this licensed driver. ASLs (cycle boxes) are for cyclists; an encroaching driver won’t see my camera before it sees them.
