@korraspout @simbasad2 obviously, but its not like theres much melting in summer with how low the sun angle is moreover, radiational cooling would still be easier in europe than the tropics due to less humidity and less net heat energy gained during the day

@korraspout @simbasad2 youre confusing length of day with sun angle; by this logic Antarctica would be sweltering in SHEM summer since the sun never sets. in parts of the world closer to the equator, the higher sun angle will perform significantly more radiational heating despite shorter duration

@simbasad2 its a fact cities cannot properly cool down because all the brick and concrete traps the heat from the sun. its the reason why cities are always a couple degrees hotter than outside of them and this is exacerbated by the longer days

UK heat is way fucking worse than US heat The UK has houses with thick walls and no air conditioning, and the heat is always SO HUMID I’m fucking dying in my room.

@LuftkoppTim and its not close compared to anywhere in the tropics either… id assume you have more mixing on your hotter days which would lower humidity levels, and the water temps just arent warm enough to support consistent high humidity

@LuftkoppTim not true, RH isnt a good metric to compare humidity levels across different areas 38C with 55% RH is 81-82 dewpoint while 30C with 65% RH is only 73 dewpoint for example, and its more drastic with lower temps outside of the west the us is certainly more humid than europe

The shift in ECMWF Nino 3.4 solidly into record territory reflects the additional momentum injected into the ocean over the last month. The model isn't well simulating the subseasonal wind stress signals, but once these signals are integrated into the model ocean, amplitude expresses. Confidence is clearly shifting higher on potentially the biggest El Niño event since the 1870s. The next substantial westerly wind event will likely occur during the last 10 days of May.

@BradyBGWX @AtlanticWeather in isolation this year was fine, but we very clearly got the short end of the stick; even compared to much worse climo areas like delmarva and S VA into NC. it has been ten years since the last above average snowfall winter, which, mostly everyone on the east has had since 2016

@BradyBGWX @AtlanticWeather snowfall climo are struggling. you could go ahead and take it to the WV/MD mountains who have triple digit averages, and yet they have been struggling greatly too. this year was arguably more frustrating since MD blew multiple chances with ample cold and a good pattern.

Fun fact: I picked up 10% of DC’s(Reagan) total snowfall for the season today and near 25% in the last 2 weeks at 2.6” of snow lol. I swear I love D.C. 😂

I mean it’s not that I wasn’t expecting some fun but to see it verify is another thing. 1.5” of snow in Grafton, MA as of 830am. Some spots as much as 2”, but wasn’t consistent enough and the average lined up closer to the board. Picked up 1-1.1” of snow in I’d say ~17-18min. Roughly ~3.5”/hr+ rates converted at peak and officially 1.4-1.5 for about the ~hour. Paste at the bottom because of graupel but it was pure fluff tbh and makes sense with UL cold air despite surface temps in 30’s. Just fantastic and it’s created an amazing April Winter Wonderland except for the roads. @WX1BOX @TheTKWeatherXp

@Blue99Wx @nirvash_tk @meteoroloquads @fadinglucia01 The football field is directly next to a creek. Temp of 101 with localized areas of 50% humidity will get it up there. Not to mention the lakes we have around the metro and the urban heat bubble. Makes it feel like hell.

@DFWStormChasing @nirvash_tk @meteoroloquads @fadinglucia01 wetbulb of 94F in the US anywhere is extremely questionable; you would need dews in the low 90s to achieve that without real temps being in the 110s only places in the world that can get that level of humidity (more than once every several years) are south asia and persian gulf

@Blue99Wx @simbasad2 @chazzzwx Because the top 10 are a collection of temps spanning from the 1880s to 1994 and yet the "hottest years ever" have never beaten it a single one of these ten. And we've been getting told about "hottest year ever" since about 2012 every other year.

P.S: The top 10 highest recorded temps in New York City are prior to 1995 and most sea level ride predictions have flunked.

Warming temperatures are mainly observed during nighttime and during the winter, but in the summer rather than outright higher temperatures, there’s been a noticeable increase in humidity instead
