Ted pretends to understand - he doesn't. The UK's welfare bill is ~£334Bn. The state pension is ~£146Bn. That's ~44%. What is commonly ignored is the income tax and general taxation paid by Pensioners which is estimated to be ~£79Bn. 🤷‍♂️
Ted Newson@NewsonTed

Despite pensioners often being highly critical of Britain's welfare bill, they seem oblivious to the fact that ~50-55% of it comes from pension spend. As the population ages, a steadily growing pension bill relative to GDP is unsustainable. The triple lock must go.

Anyone who takes anything this woman has to say, about education or schools seriously, might do well to think about what that says to others about their professionalism, and indeed their credibility.

The pensioners aren’t the problem, if you want me as a young person to be more angry at pensioners getting a £500 pay lift on a measly £12k after a life time of work, than those who have never worked a day getting a £6000 boost, earning more in benefits than I do working. I simply won’t have any part in it. Pensioners aren’t not the problem. My latest for the @Daily_Express express.co.uk/news/uk/219153… express.co.uk/news/uk/219153…

Labour is now spending more on welfare than it is raising in Income Tax. In the 2025/26 financial year, the Treasury raised £331 billion in Income Tax. In the same year, the Government spent £333bn on welfare. As I and many others have pointed out, this is unsustainable. A 🧵

Those in the treasury must not have the skills to forecast - how many have senior level private sector business experience? These differences are not small - you’d be fired in a private sector job for this much error !

🤦The 50p tax rate was supposed to raise £2.7bn a year. It raised £1bn. The Energy Profits Levy was forecast at £41.6bn. It raised £17.4bn. The non-dom abolition was meant to raise £34bn. It may raise nothing. 📉This is not bad luck. It is a pattern.

The youth unemployment crisis fuelling chaos on London’s streets Labour are destroying a generation’s employment prospects. Savage tax rises and draconian new employment regulations are a full frontal attack on business’s ability to employ people. telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…
