Can you imagine telling someone in the 1990s betting ring that in 2026 that punters in the future would take their tips from the bookie - the person trying to take their money. Wild times.

80% of Capital Gains Tax discount benefits the wealthiest 10% of people That means 90% of us have been subsidising the wealthiest people to turn our homes into unproductive tax write offs Labor’s budget is trying to fix this inequity

I get it - people hate paying tax: I don't get it - they love Medicare, aged care, child care, the health system, air traffic controllers, the defence of Australia's borders, fire fighters, police, cheap scripts, free schools, the ABC, pensions for the elderly, trading the govt bond market & roads, to name a few.

@HypocriticOathe @OMGTheMess Negative gearing isn’t the gold mine you think it is. Sure it saves a bit of tax but it really isn’t worth the shit you get for providing subsidised housing, particularly when you have to pay CGT at the end of it. I’m happy to dip and leave you all to it 😂 good luck.

@OMGTheMess They will have to sell if the negative gearing goes. Property prices will fall. Most investment loans are interest only for the first few years. There will negative equity across the board causing banks to foreclose.

I won’t allow MAGA extremism to infect our society bringing with it the same insanity, lies, chaos, corruption, hatred and division that i’m watching unfold under President Donald Trump 🤮 I pledge to oppose her mercilessly, until Pauline Hanson is brought down 🚫 no deals or preferences going towards her vile party centrists / leftists will have to put differences aside.. campaign and vote tactically to achieve our objectives, even if it means supporting Anthony Albanese in 2028 🤷🏻‍♂️ because if the Liberals / Nationals wanna hitch themselves to One Nation? say goodbye to winning Govt ever again.. Angus Taylor will not be Prime Minister 30yrs and ONP still representing the same rancid nationalism, but now mixed with populism.. preying on voter frustration to sow hostility towards immigration, while being bankrolled by Gina Rinehart I stand with our multicultural communities 🫶🏻 and the migrants i’m grateful to have in my life, you mean to the world to me I also stand with everyone who values public services.. and needs them to be properly funded and functioning against the cuts that a dangerous Far-Right coalition would bring.

One Nation’s first MP was a disendorsed Lib: Hanson. Its second was a disaffected Nat: Joyce. Its third, Farley, won on Coalition preferences. Now the Coalition won’t rule out governing with One Nation. The far right is a bundle deal. Vote for one, get all three. #auspol

What if aliens don't need to "travel" here? What if they have developed the technology to use quantum mechanics to go instantly from anywhere to here? That makes the Universe much smaller. The only reason their spaceships require propulsion is that the need to be able to get around once here. Perhaps the machine that makes quantum travel is so vast it can only handle the jump here and back?

@TheKouk You do realise that the dollars used to buy the property have already been taxed? CGT shouldn’t exist at all.

If the rumours on negative gearing & capital gains tax changes are correct, you can still invest in residential real estate... ... it is just that other tax payers will not be subsidising your costs & if prices rise, you pay a bit of tax on the windfall price increases.

@joeroganhq I’ve long held a theory that genius engineer types are aliens that release tech at a speed that humans can accept. Their “tell” is they can’t fit in socially, awkward and introverted. Elon is riding a fine line, he is impatient, SpaceX, xAI, Tesla, Boring, Neuralink etc. Really?

@markbouris So the RBA raises rates so we spend more on interest because it makes banks raise their rates. And they make us spend more so we don’t have money to spend on anything else. It just doesn’t make sense. If you don’t want people to spend just increase GST to 30% for a while.

Today the independent Reserve Bank increased interest rates by 25 basis points. Australians are already paying a hefty price for the war in the Middle East and this decision will make it tougher. It will add to the pressure that families and businesses are under at a time of ongoing global instability. We understand that people are under pressure which is why we’re rolling out responsible cost of living relief. The uncertainty and volatility in the global economy mean there is an even greater premium on responsible fiscal management. In the upcoming Budget, we’ll continue this government’s record of responsible economic management by saving more than we spend and banking all upward revisions to revenue.
