@chrija @karpathy @dwarkesh_sp I also heard it and is amazing. I did not think for 1 sec was pessimistic it felt insightful and balanced.

I don’t think what @karpathy said on the @dwarkesh_sp podcast (which is fantastic, BTW – listen if you haven’t yet) should be understood as "AI progress will be slow". If anything, it’s only "slow" compared to the most optimistic of the most optimistic timelines (the kind you might hear from Sam Altman when he’s fundraising 🤣). Andrej said "AGI is still a decade away". He didn’t say a century. The definition of AGI he referred to is: "A system you could go to that can do any economically valuable task at human performance or better." Based on this definition – "...can do ANY economically valuable task at human performance or better" - AGI means that the vast majority of jobs as we know them today will have ceased to exist. The only jobs left for humans will be those where our human-ness itself is the reason we want a human to do it (e.g. nurses). If we got to this kind of AGI in around ten years ... holy moly, it’s gonna be hard to prepare for that. It's a very different story if we use one of the newer definitions, like "a system that outperforms most humans at digital knowledge tasks". That type of AGI is right around the corner.

This is what early-stage venture is all about: backing great people early, staying patient through the learning curve, and watching them build something truly meaningful. Cc @InReachVentures

Benchmark is dead is absolute BS. No fund has played the AI wave of last 18 months better. Let me put this in context: In their most recent fund they have: Fireworks ($130M ARR) Sierra ($5BN valuation) LangChain ($1BN valuation) Mercor ($100M ARR in 11 months) HeyGen ($80M ARR in 12 months) Manus (one of most insane teams in AI) Oh and they have @peterfenton @ericvishria at the helm. Yeah, I am long Benchmark.
