The inauguration of 75 CM Shri Schools with 7000+ AI powered, smartboard enabled classrooms, in Delhi yesterday, reflected a powerful commitment to transforming government school education. For me, this day came as a personally meaningful milestone. Entrusted with the responsibility of creating a blended library in this school by Madam Director Education, I spent the last few months engaged in designing, building and monitoring tasks, sourcing new age reading materials, & more recently, training students to employ digital devices in the most effective ways. All the smartboard enabled schools connected with us online in the library & Hon'ble Shri Dharmendra Pradhan ji, Union Minister of Education, Hon'ble Smt. Rekha Gupta ji, Chief Minister,Delhi, and Hon'ble Sh. Ashish Sood ji, Education Minister, Delhi, along with Worthy Director Education, Ms. Veditha Reddy ji interacted with students from all over the city from this space. The inauguration of this library brought with it several moments that will remain etched in my memory but the one I document here as a favourite forever is when childlike joy replaced hierarchy and all the respected Ministers sat on the library floor to read books with us. It was deeply moving to see Hon'ble Madam Chief Minister reveal her warm, playful side when she offered to pick the first book to read with us. Hon'ble Union Minister sir & Education Minister sir followed suit & engaged with the books in the library and with the students. This humility, simplicity, this kind of authentic engagement with learners will remain a lesson in all these qualities for all of us present. The encouragement and appreciation that this library received from both state and national leadership and from Madam Director Education has strengthened my resolve and my confidence to build many more such spaces. Creating libraries and reading spaces in government schools is not just about books. To me, it is about opening doors of imagination, possibility and most importantly, dignity. The two-day conference brought together academicians, librarians, teacher educators, SCERT/DIET/SIE representatives, RIE librarians, and school practitioners from 19 States/UTs to deliberate on the evolving role of school libraries in light of NEP 2020. The inaugural session was graced by Mr. Himanshu Gupta (IAS), Secretary, NCERT, Prof. Devika P. Madalli, Director, INFLIBNET, and Prof. Ajay Pratap Singh, Director General, National Library, Kolkata. Over 77 research papers were presented across ten sessions by renowned LIS professionals, including Prof. A.R.D. Prasad, Prof. R.K. Bhatt, Prof. K.P. Singh, Prof. Priya Rai, Dr. Manish Kumar, Dr. Ajit, Dr. Shalender S. Chauhan, and Dr. Sonam Singh. The valedictory session featured insightful reflections by Prof. Amarendra P. Behera, Joint Director, CIET, and Prof. R.K. Chadha, Former Additional Secretary, Parliament of India.
