Hubby and I visited Sanibel Island in Florida this weekend and what I DIDN’T see was more impressive than what I DID see.
I didn’t see homeless people camped on the beach or boardwalk. I didn’t see needles and drug paraphernalia laying around. I didn’t see human feces on the sidewalks. I didn’t see criminals looting stores or attacking people. I didn’t see any of the things that have become the norm in California.
Thank you @GovRonDeSantis for fostering a clean, safe, beautiful paradise and being the governor that America needs.

@1Nicdar never look directly at a person wearing a hospital gown in a Florida Walmart

Another flying story.
When I was a C-141 pilot in the Air Force, we went everywhere. No exceptions. All 7 continents.
On this particular day, we started out on a US Embassy support mission around Africa. We delivered diplomats, classified documents, groceries, and supplies. From my home base in Charleston, SC, to Bermuda, Senegal, Liberia, The Congo, Kenya, South Africa, etc.
On one stop in Kinshasa, The Congo (formerly Zaire), we laid over in a relatively nice hotel. Surprising for that part of the world and definitely a remnant of Belgian rule.
As we checked in, the hotel had flyers all through the lobby promoting a big party in their disco on the top floor.
It was Elvis Presley’s birthday, apparently. Our crew was unaware of it but some tribal mofo’s in the middle of fourth-world nowhere knew! 🤣🤣🤣
My copilot, Jim Phillips, and I thought we’d investigate and find a beer. We dropped off our bags in our rooms, threw on some jeans, took a “MAC shower” and headed to the top floor of this high rise hotel.
The disco was fairly nice, as discos in fourth-world shit holes go, and we walked it. The music was pumping, the lights and globes flashing, and it was loud.
There was absolutely NOBODY there! We were it! 🤣🤣🤣
But, they had posted pictures of Elvis everywhere. Walls, ceilings, tables, everywhere. It was weird. We spun to walk out but some bouncer guy convinced us to stay for a free beer.
“What the hell.”
So, we sat and had a Zairean beer. Just looking around, marveling at all of the Elvis stuff, and enjoyed the music. We went to back to our rooms and went to bed.
The next morning, we were preflighting our C-141 to fly home to Charleston. I did the walk around prior to departure. Got back to the cockpit and Jim had posted Elvis pictures all over the cockpit. On the fire handles, the throttles, windscreen, everything.
I laughed my ass off. That was Jim. The flight engineers walked into the cockpit and freaked out. What had we done to their jet?! 🤣
Then, they started laughing. “Can we just be able to see the fire handles, please?” 🤣
“Fair enough. Off the fire handles, let’s go!”
We made it home in-spite of Elvis…and Jim.
PS Jim passed away recently. He was a very close friend and a helluva pilot. RIP brother. 🙏❤️🇺🇸

Do you want this?
Wait, so you're telling me I don't have to spend three hours grinding sparks into my eyeballs anymore? 🪚🦾
Who else is throwing their abrasive discs in the bin after seeing this? 🗑️

Late getting home & traffic. No matter…
Golf club fitting Friday, pick up groomed dogs, pick up kids, make pizza from scratch.
Saturday, Deanna’s son comes to spend the night. As they play, I’m cleaning out my closet & a small remaining area of living room, then making a new ramen recipe for the kids.
Sunday, brunch at country club then summer clothes shopping for kids at mall. Might be able to meet my buddy for a beer if there is time after the mall & dropping her son off…I dunno but I’m trying. Might squeeze the dog park in one of those days if it’s dry, and we might go fly my son’s RC plane in the afternoon Saturday. Not sure about Sunday dinner, but I’ll find something.
This is considered an exciting weekend. It’s different from what I considered exciting years ago, but the feeling is close to the same. I’m good with that.
