What fantastic job! Castle road, in Portsmouth. This was a road, then an LTN. Now it’s just a properly done, pedestrianised street. With a degree of harmonised design. And no tarmac! No white upvc! This is what politics is about. Making places better.

Seema, what about people who are hit by buses? Cycle lanes keep buses further away from pedestrians — that's good. If you put cyclists and buses into the same lane, what happens to kids who cycle? There are 15,000km of road in London, and less than 200km with a separated cycle lane. Why focus on them? If your model is Kensington, where all road users share the same road, I have to say I feel unsafe cycling down it (which I do every day). Just trying to be helpful.

This is the sound of the penny almost dropping for The Telegraph. So close 😊 “So, instead of taking around five minutes in the car, it takes between 20 and 30 minutes. Realistically, it would be quicker for drivers to swap four wheels for two legs.” telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/03/2…

The population of the UK has increased by around 12 million over the last 40 years but we have done little to address the issue of transportation. We have simply allowed private car use to saturate our roads and overwhelm infrastructure. We need suitable alternatives to the car.

Paris’ transformation, gearing its glorious streets towards pedestrians and cyclists is a joy. London could learn a lot from it.
Brent Toderian@BrentToderian

The most important thing about this amazing Paris transformation is how fast it happened —how fast people on bikes “appeared” —once streets were transformed. You can’t write this off as “#Paris was always this way,” because it wasn’t. It took leadership.

You are five times more likely to survive being hit by a driver doing 20mph vs a driver doing 30mph. Great to see Enfield rolling out new life saving 20mph zones. Slow down. Slower speeds save lives. #VisionZeroLDN. 👏👏@EnfieldCouncil @JourneysPlaces

Fact check: There are fewer than 200 km of separated cycle lanes in London. The two main causes of slow bus times are too many cars and people parked in bus lanes.

Tragic decision given bus speeds are at a 10yr low and this spot is especially bad. Painful irony too coming from the Cabinet Member for Inequality given that people on the lowest incomes rely most on buses. Let alone, supporting buses is supporting a public service for everyone.

📢 We’ve listened to residents & will not proceed with the proposed bus lane on the B106 corridor (Colney Hatch Lane → Bounds Green Road). Hear from @CllrSeema on how we’ll find a solution together. 🔗 bit.ly/4aZ1Smh

19% of people aged 20-24 don’t have a driver’s license. 30-40% of people over 85 don’t have a driver’s license. Planning and designing places that force everyone to be dependent on cars is cruel.

The Court of Appeal's judgement stopping Tower Hamlets from ripping out safety infrastructure is good news for Londoners. It's good for road safety & reducing danger. It's good for air quality, good for health, and good for communities across the capital. standard.co.uk/news/london/lo…

If you need more proof of what causes congestion It's not road restrictions or road capacity It's not cycle lanes, or bicycles It's this: too many cars.
Transportation Alternatives@TransAlt

Today in the @nytimes: "One year after the start of congestion pricing, traffic jams are less severe, streets are safer, and commute times are improving for travelers from well beyond Manhattan."

As Paris keeps showing the world, the moment we stop treating neighborhood streets as exclusively places to move and store cars, and start designing them as places to live, everything changes... cooler blocks, safer streets, cleaner air, stronger community, & real public space.
