@jlkurtz John, the can of worms is already open. At this point more access and giving the Big 12 a chance to prove it on the field in a 24 team playoff is the best thing. A small playoff is best for 3% of CFB teams, a large playoff is best for 97% of CFB teams.

Here’s a thought: If you’re good enough to compete for the National Championship, don’t throw your chance out the window by losing 3 times. It’s really that simple. If you lose 3, 4, 5 times, you’re no longer deserving enough to have “access” to the CFP. You blew it.

Back when Dodge Chargers with dealer plates, a no-show job for your dad at the Budweiser distributor, and a suitcase of Cassino chips was enough to land a five star, it was pretty easy to tell who the small handful teams capable of winning a title actually were. Now the talent is so spread out it’s tougher.

@BudElliott3 Would be cool to see these teams play 12 weeks to see who can earn limited playoff spots. Or we can just throw them all in a 24 team mosh pit for 5 weeks at the end of the year. I like seeing champ caliber teams penalized for losses, 24 teams undoubtedly dilutes a good product.

And if you look at it, given how much the talent is spreading out, we've quickly outgrown 12. The number of teams who are producing six or more draft picks is probably going to be double next year what it was in 2023. Yes, there are many more teams that now have a national title caliber roster for sure. The flattening of the sport, talent-wise, has been great because so many more fans have access to winning it all and playing for bigger prizes.

@dannykanell @BudElliott3 More nonsense from Kanell. Perhaps you don’t understand that since the portal / NIL era and leveling of talent, the need for an expanded playoff is more justified than previously. Prior to portal / NIL, a 12 team playoff was unnecessary.
