Vibecoding has gotten so good that it feels like magic, yet we still haven’t seen the true potential of AI-powered creative tools for the masses. I wrote about how the next wave will enable joyful creation for everyone. I call them AI Crayons. brendanmulligan.com/writing/magica…

@jamesrosst I try not to decide whether or not I should be nice to someone based on how much I like what they make in their free time

@JoshLu Point is I don’t think your example points to Japan as being a leader, could have learned more elsewhere.

Advice I've given to multiple consumer founders recently: go spend a week in Tokyo. Your plan: Make friends with strangers and observe/ask them what they do for fun. Japan has been digitally ~5-10 yrs ahead of the US for a while (gacha/collectibles, virtual boy/girlfriends, etc)

@JoshLu It took Covid to make that transformation real and China was way ahead of Japan on digital payments by then anyway. I don’t buy that Japan is a leading indicator of digital behavior in the US.

@BrainEngineer QR codes became popular in the states during covid. 5 years ago they were already on every train, bus stop, etc in Japan.

I’ve coinvested with Mantis (Chainsmokers fund) and they sincerely care about the teams they back, will put in effort to add real value if they can. More than some “better” names I’ve also shared a cap table with. Say what you want about @AlexPallNY but he at least gives a shit.
Samir Vasavada@samir_vasavada

The Chainsmokers are great investors. Alex is one of our most helpful investors and has introduced us to countless customers and is very thoughtful on marketing/sales. drew is cool too Having the hustle they have as VCs is rare, and even more rare that they work harder than the best VCs despite already being rich and famous

@doodlestein Does this meaningfully improve on the auto-classifier in Claude code? Have never seen it take destructive action on this level

PSA: You're risking your data and your sanity if you let agents run wild with "dangerously bypass permissions" mode and no protections to keep them in check. The solution isn't to lock them down so you need to spoon-feed them permissions for every little thing, either. The solution is to use dcg: github.com/Dicklesworthst…

@doodlestein This is great… @theo and I were just talking about something similar Will use moving fwd! Dumb of me to not be doing something like this. Even though this was a one-in-a-million scenario it’s still so annoying!

@JoshSeriesAI @sammysintech Something tells me “let our customers have six beers and sit naked in a co-ed sauna with unrestricted access to the adjacent freezing sea” doesn’t read well on an SF permit

We are going to see a huge rise in sauna experiences and related companies coming to SF. There’s a few in Canada popping up (new) and around the US that I think would do very well here. They are also often fully booked and well funded in the cities they are in. Back to basics and human connection.

I've always loved Sanzo Wada's Dictionary of Color Combinations so I worked with Fable to bring it to life - give it a try at colors.bible

If we are bringing taste back to SF tech, can we also bring taste back into SF fashion. I worked in fashion for 7 years and I’d be happy to take a few people on a little group shopping trip on Filmore. 5 spots. We’ll coordinate a day. DM if you’re interested.

My time at Riot and on TFT as a Game Designer has come to an end. Just under 10 years, and to be honest I thought it was going to be longer, but sometimes things change. ------------------------------------------------- I’m so grateful for what I was able to be a small part of, and able to accomplish in the last decade. It’s been a dream career, and I have got to do so much thanks to Riot. Even trying to list it all feels insane what I managed to do in this time. And the crazy 7 years on TFT where I got to design, balance, teach, lead, and more for my job, but then also build a community, stream, cast, go to events…it’s just been amazing. Ending on stuff like the Unlock system and a couple other things…I’m heading out proud. To everyone I worked with over the years, thank you for letting me be a part of everything we accomplished. I hope I managed to teach you something or bring you joy in some way. I genuinely hope our paths cross again in the future. To everyone who supported TFT or me over the years, you have no idea what it means to me. I cherish all the moments over the years, and they’ll keep me going. I am so blessed to have been a part of your lives and thank you for letting me bring some fun into your world. ----------------------------------------------------- So…what’s next for me? I’m trying to figure that out. First off, since I was on sabbatical and am terrible at relaxing/not working, I have been making my own small indie game. I’m about 2 months into development and have already had folks playtesting some early builds. I’d say the game is like 20-30% done, but my goal is to release it as a full game. It’s been fun keeping my skills sharp in a different space, and I hope to share it with you all someday. Beyond that, I’m keeping my eyes open for other opportunities. I’ve had a few conversations here and there already during my Sabbatical. It’s a brutal industry right now, so I’m taking one day at a time and figuring out what’s next for me, whether it’s working on another studio’s game or even my own thing. And I’d love to find a space to do some content creation and be able to share my knowledge of game development. But that may take some time to figure out how to do it right. -------------------------------------------------------Again, thank you for everything these last 10 years. It’s a big change and I’m nervous but hoping it all works out. Until next time, take it easy! -Mort

i love Sontag’s idea that intelligence is basically taste in ideas. feels like a useful corrective to the way ‘taste’ sometimes gets reduced to visual/aesthetic sensibility, when it’s really a more general capacity for discernment taste in morality and acts feels especially under-discussed
