The Tigers entered last July 9 at 59-34 after beating the Rays on July 8. They lost that day and went 28-41 the rest of the way to finish the regular season at 87-75. That included an utter collapse of 7-17 in September to lose the division. This isn't a new development.

The one thing I’ll say is, no, the Tigers don’t need to rip it down to the studs. They need a 1B, 2B, 3B, RF and bullpen arms. But they can’t go back to square one every time they have a bad season. The goal has to be to win at some point. Endless rebuilds aren’t that.

@Sheehan_Sports @DetroitTankCity No, just an optimist. Me too. We can’t - well, we shouldn’t - blame ourselves for trusting the front-office professionals to make good decisions. If we’re disappointed, imagine how the owner feels. Harris better not buy any green bananas.

I feel catfished by the Detroit Tigers. All the signs were there. But I ignored all of them because I wanted to believe in a mirage. But I believed, and therefore I’m a moron.

@APTNNews @ehoneybunAPTN So that makes the claim true? Look, nobody denies that many terrible things happened at the schools. But insisting on a claim you refuse to prove, maybe can’t prove, weakens your credibility on every issue. Put up or shut up about these “graves”.

@EvanLSolomon Still pretending you haven’t seen the demographics of Melanie Joly’s riding? Words ARE easier than principled action, aren’t they? Do you think anyone believes you guys still care if Jews are consistently menaced and attacked? We see you for what you are.

Hatred and antisemitism have no place in Canada. The display of a Jewish person in effigy is vile, deeply disturbing, and a clear act of hate. This incident must be taken seriously and investigated by the appropriate authorities. To Jewish Canadians: you are not alone. We stand with you. We will always defend the safety, dignity, and belonging of every community in this country.

Residential school denialism spikes at predictable times, anniversary of Kamloops announcement (May 27), Orange Shirt Day (Sept 30) etc. Denialists target these - rage baiting and cherry-picking to platform hate, as @Niigaanwewidam and I have pointed out: thetyee.ca/Opinion/2023/0…

@Pagmenzies @stphnmaher @djbip1986 From René Lévesque onwards, the PQ has always played strictly by the rules. The BQ, or elements of it, cheated with "spoiled" ballots in the '95 referendum, but otherwise the PQ earned legitimacy, acceptance, and respect. Any Alberta separatists would do well to emulate that.

@cselley You can and should make a distinction between constitutionally-imposed injustice (unfortunate but inevitable) and boundaries drawn unfairly for partisan advantage in densely-populated areas. Canada has done well in avoiding the latter.

I need to talk about Sen̓áḵw. This word has been in the news for years, and I still hear it mispronounced constantly—by journalists, politicians, and well-meaning people who just haven't been shown how. It's a word from the Squamish Language. Let me walk you through it. 🧵

@AdamZivo if it's "potential" it's not a "discovery", FFS. It's a suspicion. A still-untested suspicion. So who claims to suspect it? The people getting money to claim to suspect it. Why don't they test the suspicion? Because they're getting the money.

As expected, this article originates from the Canadian Press. It’s clearly not journalism, but rather stenography on behalf of an Indigenous group — a public relations piece, really. If journalists want to be activists/publicists, then they shouldn’t act surprised when public trust in the media continues to crater.

By my read, we are the only country on earth who *officially* punishes citizens more harshly than non-citizens for the same crime. I challenge you to find me a Canadian who doesn't believe it should be *exactly* the other way around.
Jamie Sarkonak@sarkonakj

@frob15 @TristinHopper That would make the most sense, but the Supreme Court didn't think that was fair. So it made a rule in 2013 requiring that immigration be taken into account. Here's a news story about it from back then: canadianlawyermag.com/news/general/i…

Liaisons has the Liberals at 43% and CPC at 31% Carney's approval at 59%, very much in line with Abacus Like I'm genuinely asking: what's the plan for the Conservatives? Just waiting for Carney to become unpopular? I'm not even saying I know what the CPC should do. But the situation seems just... Really bad? Canadian voters have just decided that they loved Carney and I'm not sure there is anything the CPC can do about it

@Prominent_Bryan Why do they need to "do" anything? There's a majority government. No election for more than three years. All the Conservatives have to do is provide good policy ideas and point out Liberal errors, inconsistencies, failures, and dishonesty. That's enough.
