RSO Firmly Rejects Arakan Army’s Cynical Disinformation Campaign Over the Ghumdhum Landmine Atrocity The Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) categorically rejects and strongly condemns the statement released on 26 May 2026 by the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA). In that document, the Arakan Army once again attempts to wash its hands of responsibility for the landmine explosion that killed three innocent Bangladeshi civilians on 24 May 2026 in the Ghumdhum border area of Naikhongchhari Township, Bandarban District, while they were working in a banana plantation near Tumbru Zero Point. Such denials are neither credible nor unfamiliar. For years, the narco-terrorist Arakan Army has perfected the art of disinformation, scapegoating, and deflection whenever its actions result in civilian bloodshed. This latest exercise in blame-shifting is simply the most recent chapter in a long and sordid pattern. The facts on the ground are unambiguous. The Arakan Army exercises dominant operational control over extensive stretches of the Bangladesh-Myanmar frontier opposite Bandarban, including critical corridors around Maungdaw and adjacent border zones. In these very areas, credible reporting from Bangladeshi authorities, local communities on both sides of the border, and independent observers has repeatedly documented the group’s systematic and deliberate deployment of landmines in civilian-populated zones. These indiscriminate devices have claimed the lives and limbs of Bangladeshi farmers, Border Guard Bangladesh personnel, and Rohingya civilians alike for years, a grim record of landmine terrorism that has turned frontier farmlands and forest paths into killing fields. This is compounded by the Arakan Army’s well-documented involvement in large-scale cross-border narcotics trafficking , particularly yaba and other methamphetamine derivatives, which international and Bangladeshi law enforcement sources have linked directly to the financing of its operations. A group that marries landmine warfare with narco-trafficking cannot credibly claim the mantle of victim or defender of civilians. The Arakan Army’s attempt to pin this atrocity on Rohingya Solidarity organization (RSO) is not only dishonest but transparently self-serving. The precise location of the 24 May explosion lies squarely within a zone of AA influence, where local Bangladeshi residents have long reported movement restrictions, armed patrols, and mine threats imposed by the group itself. The international community and the Government of Bangladesh have every reason to view these denials with the deepest skepticism. The Arakan Army carries an extensive international record of massacres, forced recruitment, torture, extortion, forced displacement, and systematic violence against the Rohingya population, atrocities thoroughly documented by respected human rights organizations. An armed actor with such a history cannot be permitted to whitewash its crimes or export its brand of terror across an international border. The RSO extends its profound condolences to the families of the three Bangladeshi nationals killed in this cowardly act and stands in full solidarity with the people of Bangladesh, who continue to bear the tragic consequences of the Arakan Army’s militarization of the border region. We urge the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the international community, and competent counter-terrorism and humanitarian demining bodies to dismiss the Arakan Army’s propaganda, support a thorough independent investigation into the Ghumdhum incident, and take concrete steps to confront the growing menace of landmine contamination and narcoterrorism emanating from AA-controlled territory.
