The time has come to leave this platform. The Twitter road back in 2011 was fun - building @SurreyRoadCops from a few hundred followers, to over 100k, but now the platform has lost its way, becoming toxic, full of misinformation and not ‘fun’. Stay safe, have fun. Bye 👋🏼

@James69382185 @scottiebateman Bannister is one of them. Can’t remember the other one off the top of my head. In that case, the proximity of other vehicles is probably enough to make it not ‘speed alone’ - also remember that a driver that pleads Guilty doesn’t really mean the offence is always tested/made out

I wonder what the fine and points would be for getting caught doing 678 KPH (421 MPH) on the freeway. This Polish MiG 29 crew are going to find out. 😂🫣 What’s your fastest (on a track obviously) ? #aviation

@James69382185 @scottiebateman Highly unlikely to be based solely on speed alone. Two different case law incidsnts unfortunately cover this. You will probably find there may be some minor other elements which make it not speed alone.

@Broadsword999 @scottiebateman Do you have the relevant case law stating this? Have seen a few recent prosecutions for dangerous driving based on speed alone.

@scottiebateman Yeap. Sections of the sentencing guidelines and road traffic act need a serious re-write.

@scottiebateman In the UK, ridiculously the most number of points you can get for speeding is 6… And some bright spark decided that speed alone isn’t dangerous driving - so apparently doing 240mph on a motorway isn’t dangerous…

@KdColburn @SurreyRS The limits are near on a zero tolerance approach for illegal drugs, but have above zero limits to avoid arguments around passive consumption. Prescription drugs have higher limits to allow for correct dosage.

Vehicle stopped by #VanguardRST on Friday 11th April as it was shown as uninsured. When stopped, the driver admitted to being disqualified and provided a positive #DrugWipe. Driver was arrested, and van seized. In custody, the driver refused to provide the required blood sample, so was charged with Driving Whilst Disqualified, No Insurance and Failing to Provide. Due to multiple previous offences, the was remanded until the next court where he entered guilty pleas, was released and will be sentenced at a later date. #Fatal5

@NealOKelly @SurreyRS Research shows phone use drops your ability to drive to that of a drunk driver, I’d take that as dangerous.

@Broadsword999 @SurreyRS It just seems a bit unserious. There aren't five (or four) stand-out causes. Even if there were, these wouldn't be them. And just because something is illegal, doesn't mean it's necessarily particularly dangerous.

The driver of this BMW, already on a Section 59 Warning, decided to drift around a roundabout at a car meet in Brooklands—right in front of a waiting #VanguardRST car. 🚔 Checks also revealed no insurance. Car seized, driver reported to court with 9 points already. #Fatal5

@NealOKelly @SurreyRS Mobile phone isn’t itself a Fatal 5 - it’s covered under ‘distracted driving’. It’s also not always possible to provide phone use in a collision.

@Broadsword999 @SurreyRS And mobile phone use doesn't even make the top five of of the distraction/impairment category. Drink and drug driving (usually one the five) results in eight times as many deaths as mobile phone use.

@NealOKelly @SurreyRS I agree about the inconsistency and I wish there was better / firm decision from NPCC, but they are the five top causation factors in serious injury and fatal collisions.

@Broadsword999 @SurreyRS Sometimes it's five; sometimes is four. There's no consistency between forces. They aren't actually the five most dangerous things. Nothing maps on ras0701. But the important thing is that the alliteration works.
