After an antisemitic attack on a Jewish volunteer ambulance service, you’d expect focussed questions about the rise and threat of antisemitism in the UK. Not @edballs on @GMB this morning. Instead, he tried to shift the discussion – asking whether criticism of a mass iftar event in Trafalgar Square is “causing problems” for the Jewish community. This isn’t balance or insight; its poor journalism that misses the point and dilutes the seriousness of antisemitism. Well handled by @DovForman for staying on point.

The UK bent over backwards to prove it wasn’t the enemy. It recognised a Palestinian state. It tolerated mass anti-war protests—even when crowds chanted openly hateful slogans. It refused to designate Iran’s IRGC as a terrorist organisation. It stayed out of a direct US-Israel confrontation with the Iranian regime. And still—it wasn’t enough. A synagogue in Manchester was attacked. Jewish charity ambulances in London were burned. So let’s drop the illusion: this violence isn’t a reaction to UK foreign policy. It isn’t something that can be appeased away with concessions or restraint. It’s targeted hatred—and it must be stopped with action, not just words.

We are sold KYC, AML and surveillance as protection, while the Bank of England moves to restrict 'unhosted wallets' to keep activity within intermediated systems in the name of stability and control. These rules do little to curb illicit flows but expand data collection, erode privacy, impose costs, and add friction and limit access through banks and intermediaries. I worked on this show for a few years. The Exec producer would regularly walk out of his office and demand we find page 3 girls, dwarves, inflatables of some sort or all of the above with barely any notice before the next show. I once walked down the corridor to find a group of ‘topless’ nuns i had to look after whom I’d been told nothing about previously. Could you imagine any of that on breakfast tv today?!

Incredible to think this wonderfully chaotic, joyful, irreverent programme, which I had the pleasure of being on a few times, seems like another world away now. Fun & joy has been completely replaced with dour earnestness, bland virtue signalling & self-conscious caution.

From an economics perspective I agree with you. I think a far greater threat to this country is the rise of Islamism and appeasement of it by a Labour Party afraid of losing the Muslim vote. Multiply that by 10 for the Green Party's lengths to which it will go to take them from Labour. The threat is far to great not to vote in my opinion. Next election is the last chance saloon for this country on this particular issue.

I agree David But tbh if an election were tomorrow. I would not vote. I have seen nothing from Reform that says they will actually change anything. They would need a serious manifesto and action to suade me at this point I see the system as the issue. Nothing will change until the BOE does.

You negotiate with terrorists. We do not. In the UAE, we don’t negotiate with terrorists we ban them, we eliminate them. To Washington, to the EU, to NATO, to Israel do whatever you need to do. The Islamic regime in Iran and its terrorist network must go. BTW..The Muslim Brotherhood and the IRGC are designated as terrorist threats in the UAE. Yet in the UK, the Muslim Brotherhood is not banned, and the IRGC has long faced hesitation in being fully proscribed. That is the difference. We act. Others debate.
