@FlyinginFordham @AndyJShepPhoto @SmalePerry Thank you, interesting that it's a nymph. It was striding along in bright sunlight. There seem to be a lot of rove beetles, some with only Latin names. I couldn't find an image of anything that looks similar.

@Brownlowpd65 @greenwestsussex Nice, yes. Would have been a caterpillar that crawled in and overwintered I guess, the sheltered warmer area has made it emerge from its pupa.

I think this is an Angle Shades moth in my porch today. Bit of a locked room mystery - how did it enter and when? Has it overwintered there? My moth book says they fly May to October, so an early sighting? @FlyinginFordham @greenwestsussex
