Manchester United fans crying over missing out on Mateus Fernandes or Tonali might need to relax. Imagine ending up with Alex Scott, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Ayyoub Bouaddi in midfield instead. Young, technical, athletic, press-resistant, and likely for far smarter fees than the ridiculous numbers being thrown around for others. If this is the midfield rebuild next season, we might actually look back and say INEOS got the best deals in the market while everyone else was busy overpaying.

Mainoo made the World Cup. Yet three games into the tournament, he hasn't started and hasn't played a single minute. Now the same people are complaining. You wanted him at the World Cup, and he got there. What you refused to acknowledge was that he still has aspects of his game that need developing. You treated him like a finished product when he clearly isn't. And now Tuchel is benching him for what may well be the same reasons Amorim did. The talent is undeniable. He has everything needed to become one of the best midfielders in the world. But he's not there yet. And pretending otherwise helps nobody - especially Kobbie Mainoo.
