Here’s what I did do. I drove him home. Well first we ran an errand to get ice cream for my wife. I said “my lady wants ice cream so we’re gonna go get some. There’s a lesson here if you can see it.”
I asked him about his grades, his hobbies, what video games he likes, and his family.
He remarked that he had only ever been to one girls house before and they didn’t talk to him or seem to care that he was there.
I think I did okay, although my daughter was mad I didn’t let her come with to take him home. I just told her that she got to hang out with him for 2 hours I get 2 minutes to take him home.
I don’t like all the “clean weapons” posturing. If someone did that to my son I’d be angry.

I read the first hundred pages of The Road last year, and read the first hundred pages of Blood Meridian this year, and in both instances, gave up, because the books never clicked. Lyrical writing, but the characters are reduced to way down Maslow's hierarchy, and the tone is so relentlessly bleak, with almost no humanity breaking through, it was difficult to feel anything besides the flint clicking against the cold steel in the overwhelming darkness. I know many of you love it, but to me, it's overwrought, overstylized, and overhyped.

Exactly. Even if the politics don't land for you, it still works extremely well as a fun stoner comedy with a diverse cast of characters. It's also an awesome T2-style chase thriller. It works extremely well as a movie; the foundation is rock solid.
