The Vatican has responded to yesterday's announcement by the SSPX, saying: "Contacts between the Society of Saint Pius X and the Holy See are ongoing, with the aim of avoiding ruptures or unilateral approaches to the issues that have arisen." @HolySeePress

@michomokah The fact that you assume that those gathered aren’t already actively committed to the corporal works of mercy says more about you than them.

@CLMCLatinMass Want to impress the bishop and convince him to change his mind? Go, with all these numbers, and feed the hungry, clean the homeless shelters of Charlotte... DO... SOMETHING. If you don't want to be perceived as sanctimonious kooks, don't just... behave like sanctimonious kooks.

“I hope and pray that the answer (from Rome) will be given without too much delay…I think the dubia are very worthy…” Fr. Gerald Murray discussing the dubia submitted by 31 priests of the Diocese of Charlotte in response to Bishop Martin’s ban on altar rails.

@paige_cuz Some in agreement would have signed but for prudential reasons did not, or were counseled not to (in the cases of the more recently ordained). Probably pastors protecting younger priests with less canonical protection.

@CLMCLatinMass Why would priests who support the letter not sign? 50% would suggest to the Vatican the real level of concern. Is it fear?

Several diocesan sources in Charlotte have confirmed that the actual support for the dubia is closer to 50% of priests, nearly double the number of signers. Of significance, 21 of the diocese’s 64 pastors (33%) signed the letter seeking clarification from Rome.

@CatholicPods Let that sink in: 1 out of 4 priests in the diocese signed this letter. Not just a handful, but over 30, at least 20 of them pastors, in a diocese with only about 90 parishes or missions in total. This is a vote of no confidence.

@BackwardsFeet Spot on Father. We too have noticed, where confession is offered more frequently, lines are longer. The more it is preached and provided, the more the faithful avail themselves to the sacrament, the “sacrament of joy”, as St. Escriva called it.

Such a pathetic interview. Leading questions with an assumption already forgone. Confession isn't dead if the priests provide it. If you build it, they will come. We offer about ten man hours of confessions per week, and the lines are full the whole time.

NCR interviews James O'Toole, whose new book, For I Have Sinned, details the growth and eventual decline of confession in the United States, prompting questions about the sacrament's future. bit.ly/4sf4Z1j

@sixthstation51 Bishop Jugis requested and was given a 2 year extension through 10/25. It was commonly believed that an additional dispensation might be sought. However, due to health reasons (we were told), Jugis resigned and Martin was sent here in 5/24. He sought to accelerate the timeline.

@CLMCLatinMass Altar rails aside, it's my understanding that Bishop Jugis had already put the suppression of his TLMs in the pipeline before he retired, but that Bp Martin merely accelerated the timeline. Is this correct?

Fr. Steve Mattson of Lansing, MI has followed what is happening here in Charlotte. Here is his thoughtful response to Bishop Martin, with a respectful challenge to +Martin to offer Mass at St. Ann’s & distribute Communion at the rail. Baffled by a bishop - catholicworldreport.com/2025/12/30/baf…
