🫀Who benefits from subclinical AF screening? A LOOP trial substudy led by @fwemmer1 and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in the Journal of the @American_Heart, tested whether echocardiographic markers modify the effect of ILR-based SCAF screening on stroke. Study design 1,422 participants were randomized to ILR screening vs usual care (5.5-year follow-up), with echocardiography in a subset (24%). Key insights • No overall stroke reduction with ILR screening (3.9% vs 3.8%) • Conventional echo measures showed no effect modification • Only left atrial contraction strain identified benefit (HR 0.38 in low strain) 💡Atrial function—not standard echo—may help identify patients who benefit from screening. Key findings: - RSV was associated with a significant excess risk of cardiovascular events - Highest risks were seen in hospitalized patients, older adults, and those with CVD or diabetes - Cardiovascular risk after RSV was comparable to influenza 💡RSV may be an important contributor to long-term cardiovascular morbidity — highlighting the importance of prevention and vaccination.
