New study by @MananPareekMD and colleagues from @CTCPR_ , published in @JACCJournals. Key takeaways: • High-dose influenza vaccine provided consistent protection in older adults with and without ASCVD. • Benefits were similar across ASCVD subtypes. • Patients with ASCVD had greater absolute benefit due to their higher baseline risk. These findings strengthen the case for prioritizing high-dose influenza vaccination in older adults, particularly those with established cardiovascular disease. 🫀 SVT is not purely random. A nationwide Danish twin study by Emilie K. Frimodt-Møller from @Stenodiabetes , published in @JACCJournals: Clinical Electrophysiology, found that genetics account for approximately 35% of SVT risk. Using data from >32,000 twin pairs, identical twins had a significantly higher risk of SVT than fraternal twins. 💡Both inherited susceptibility and environmental factors contribute to SVT development. 🫀Who benefits from subclinical AF screening? A LOOP trial substudy led by @fwemmer1 and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in the Journal of the @American_Heart, tested whether echocardiographic markers modify the effect of ILR-based SCAF screening on stroke. Study design 1,422 participants were randomized to ILR screening vs usual care (5.5-year follow-up), with echocardiography in a subset (24%). Key insights • No overall stroke reduction with ILR screening (3.9% vs 3.8%) • Conventional echo measures showed no effect modification • Only left atrial contraction strain identified benefit (HR 0.38 in low strain) 💡Atrial function—not standard echo—may help identify patients who benefit from screening.
