A hidden gem of Chicago’s brick architecture. Located in Wicker Park on W Division Street, this late 19th-century building showcases the era of “pressed brick” — often called perfect brick for its smooth finish and ability to be molded into intricate shapes. Unlike earlier rough masonry, these machine-pressed bricks allowed architects to experiment freely — creating sweeping arches, carved details, and layered facades like this one. 📍 W Division St, Wicker Park, Chicago

Thank you @theresamah4rep for meeting with your constituents about fixing and funding transit, winning a clean grid, and addressing foam foodware waste. Thank you for championing all these issues! #ActonClimate #twill

🚨 BREAKING: ICE secretly deported Luis Leon, an 82-year-old torture survivor and U.S. legal resident of nearly 40 years, after he walked into an immigration office to replace a lost green card. Instead of processing the request, ICE handcuffed him, detained his wife for 10 hours, and later told the family; through a fake “lawyer,” that he was dead. Turns out, ICE quietly transferred him through a Minnesota detention center and dumped him in Guatemala, a country he has zero ties to. There’s no deportation paperwork, no public record. His family only found him alive after relatives in Chile tracked him to a Guatemalan hospital. Leon suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart issues. The DOJ is now under fire, but this is the Trump-era immigration machine still in motion—cruel, unaccountable, and lawless. If they can disappear an elderly, law-abiding U.S. resident… They can disappear anyone.

.@ZohranKMamdani decisively won the Democratic nomination. He is a loving son and husband, and community organizer who puts the people first. The vile, Islamophobic attacks on him are disgusting and the normalization of anti-Muslim hate is dangerous.

Rumeysa was kidnapped in plain sight & sent to Louisiana to be locked in the same detention center Mahmoud Khalil was sent to. She's a peaceful protestor, grad student, & my constituent who has a right to free speech & due process. Now she's a political prisoner. Free her now.
Tori Bedford@Tori_Bedford

Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk was detained by ICE. A video shared with GBH News shows a man in a hoodie approach her, then grab her wrists. Ozturk screams, then asks “Can I call the police?” before being told “We’re the police.” wgbh.org/news/local/202… @sweetadelinevt @GBHNews

Last week, I was expelled from @Columbia for protesting the U.S.-backed genocide in Gaza. As president of @SW_Columbia , Columbia’s student workers union, I was also fired from my job. The Trump administration is pushing their narrative. Here’s the real story. 🧵

The lawyer for Mahmoud Khalil, at today's hearing, said that she has been unable to speak to her client once since his detention. Does any of this sound like the America you were taught about growing up? A legal permanent resident kept incommunicado with no charges specifically for his speech

Could go further - since at least post-George Floyd the Trump admin has been interested in the limits of its power to criminalize protest. Detaining pro-Palestinian protestors is one step they can get away with without Democrats or many in media pushing back. It won’t end there.
jeremy scahill@jeremyscahill

The Trump administration position is clear: The First Amendment does not apply to criticizing Israel or opposing Israel’s policies. The administration is starting to carry out a policy of criminalizing this speech.

Nothing justifies disappearing a person. History is riddled with those who thought their proximity to power protected them until it didn’t. Those justifying Khalil’s disappearance are traitors to our country. I don’t say this lightly, and I mean it sincerely.
Jake Offenhartz@jangelooff

As of 8:45 p.m., a full 24 hours after he was arrested by ICE inside his university-owned apartment, Khalil's attorney still does not know where he is being detained. Columbia has not yet commented on the arrest.

Trump is holding all the nation’s hospitals and vital services hostage to seize power from Congress and hand it over to billionaires. We must state the truth: this is a constitutional crisis. It’s a massive, illegal power grab that the House and Senate have a sworn duty to stop.
