In Catholicism you are going to go to hell if you skip a Sunday mass without a really good reason. It’s one of the few things officially identified as a “mortal sin” which means you will go to Hell if you die in that state.

In Protestantism you’re going to hell for taking care for the poor, visiting prisoners and caring for the elderly if you think any of those things impact your salvation.

@bill_jensen How many people would say that they refuse to go to church because of churches being anti LGBTQ, or against divorce, or any number of biblical positions? No one seeking God will allow secondary issues to cause them to disobey his command to gather.

A new Billy Graham Center survey says nearly half of Gen Z is less likely to attend church because of Christian support for Donald Trump. Allie Beth Stuckey dismissed this as an “excuse,” blaming sin rather than the church’s political witness.
Christians, including Stuckey, regularly distance themselves from brands and companies when they believe those associations compromise their integrity. Boycotts of Bud Light, Target, Disney, Netflix, and others all rest on the idea that association communicates endorsement.
Gen Z is applying the same moral logic to churches that loudly align themselves with Trump.
Calling Christian boycotts “discernment” while calling Gen Z’s hesitation “rebellion” is a double standard. If believers can refuse to buy a beer because of a marketing partnership, young adults can reasonably hesitate to attend churches whose political endorsements feel morally compromising.
A serious question must be asked: Are Stuckey and friends more concerned with defending the grossly immoral Donald Trump and his administration than with removing barriers that keep the lost from hearing the gospel?

Openly brandishing a weapon in the sanctuary for a photo op is unbecoming of the clerical state.
Especially given that a shooting in a Catholic parish took the lives of two schoolkids and injured many more less than a year ago.

@HonestYPTweets They don't mind walking in lock-step with people who are not evangelical, so long as they are Catholic intergalists or believe in top down enforcement of religious laws. For them, being protestant is secondary to wanting a nominally Christian state.

As I’ve been putting together videos to include in my upcoming series on Christian Nationalism/Deconstruction I’ve noticed something interesting about CN.
Unless I’m missing it somewhere, I have heard little, if any, mention of the importance of evangelicalism from them.

@Mish_K_ I am a Christian. I too believe everyone needs to repent and have faith in God through Jesus. However, the New Testament commands us to give a defense of our faith with respect and gentleness to others (1 Pet. 3:15). I have the utmost respect and love for the Jewish people.

I know Christians want all non Christians to find Christ, but the way some of them go about it really isn't going to help them at all.
They tell us to repent. And accept Jesus and then tell us we're evil and insult our religion and spew so much hate, I'm not sure if that's part of their plan and way to get people or what, but whatever it is, it needs to stop.

@RonSCantor I think some people get hung up when they are introduced to quotes from Papias or Irenaeus that Matthew wrote in Aramaic and then jump to conclusions about the Peshitta etc. We don't have the manuscript tradition of an early Aramaic Gospel whereas the Greek is extremely early.

The thing that is so surprising is that none of these people said, "Wait? The New Testament was written in Greek—not Aramaic." Any Aramaic was translated from the ORIGINAL GREEK.
It's like saying—we have a new translation of the New Testament directly from the German!

How successful was Brian Simmons in convincing the world that The Passion "Translation" was translated from "Aramaic?" He had some of the most well-known Charismatic leaders hyping up his "Aramaic translation" all over the world. TPT only exists because of this deception. And now, we are being told that the final "Bible" will have almost no references to this secret "Aramaic." Why? Because various individuals have now exposed the fact that most of the "Aramaic" was just the ramblings of an amateur filmmaker who claimed to have a secret manuscript in a secret language that he refused to show anyone. The endorsements page for TPT is still a "Who's Who" of the Charismatic church.

Even the OP has exceptions, as there are a number of people who converted not in crisis.

The Billy Graham Center Research Institute surveyed Gen Z adults, and 48% agreed with this statement: "Christians' support of Trump has made me less likely to go to church."
There may be many reasons a person won’t go to church, but most of the reasons people give are excuses.
The main reason, I think, is this: we are uncomfortable seeing our own sin and our need for a Savior.

I expected the Iran war to be shorter, and have argued consistently that it should be shortened through more concerted action, not foolish MOUs. That's not hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is, for example, when you clutch your pearls when someone calls you Jerry Springer of news, proudly tout your ratings as a defense against the charge, and then whine like a little girl when I won't come on your show.

18 to 38% of elite athletes have depression, and have a risk of depression 2x the rate of the general population.
So, like, maybe exercise isn't a panacea

Exercise works for depression. 92% of clinicians get zero training on how to recommend it. If this were medication, it would be malpractice.
