🎉 A moment to celebrate - the first affordable housing complex for seniors coming to the city of Coachella! 🏡 52 new affordable homes that are part of Casa Sienna Project broke ground this week - and this project is community-led and -driven!  “The Casa Sienna development is a prime example of how our Transformative Climate Communities Program empowers our most pollution-burdened communities to transform their neighborhoods,” said Erin Curtis, Executive Director of the California Strategic Growth Council, which administers the TCC Program in partnership with @CalConservation. “Affordable senior housing connected to services and amenities not only benefits seniors but also strengthens the broader community they call home. Today’s groundbreaking is the result of partnerships at all levels and community-led and -centered efforts to build thriving, resilient neighborhoods.” California’s Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Program, a partnership between the California Strategic Growth Council and the California Department of Conservation, contributed $7.7 million toward the project - part of $22 million awarded to Coachella Prospera by TCC. 🎉 Celebrating milestones for three affordable housing projects in the Bay Area, including one grand opening!   🏘️ With the help of $161 million in state funding, three Bay Area communities - Redwood City, Union City and Oakland - will benefit from 337 affordable homes. 🆕 EXCITING NEWS! The California Strategic Growth Council has launched the new Tribal Housing and Capacity Building Initiative, making $25 million in funding available to support California Native American Tribes and Tribal entities through two grant opportunities: the Tribal Capacity Building Program and the Tribal Housing Pre-Development Fund. 💵 Funding opportunities include support for Tribal staff capacity, climate resilience efforts, housing planning, infrastructure, and affordable housing pre-development activities. Both federally recognized and non-federally recognized Tribes are encouraged to apply. 🏘️🚉 Celebrating another milestone in transit-oriented affordable housing in Los Angeles County! @metrolosangeles and Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) recently celebrated the ribbon-cutting of the Santa Monica Vermont Apartments in East Hollywood — a new mixed-use affordable housing community built in part with more than $51.2 million in state investment located adjacent to Metro’s Vermont/Santa Monica Station. 🌿 The development includes: 🏠 185 income-restricted affordable homes 🤝 Permanent supportive housing for formerly unhoused residents 🩺 Planned community health services 🚶 Pedestrian, lighting, and landscaping improvements 🛍️ Community-serving commercial space 🚇 Direct access to public transit Projects like Santa Monica Vermont Apartments demonstrate how housing, transit, and supportive services can come together to create healthier, more connected, and more equitable communities. It's Public Service Recognition week! We thank and honor our staff and ALL Public Servants today, this week, and every day!

California continues protecting what matters — our farms, our food, and the communities that depend on them. This week, the @CalSGC’s Sustainable Agricultural Land Conservation program approved more than $45.5 million to permanently protect 17,000+ acres of farmland and rangeland across 16 counties. That means: • Keeping land in agriculture • Supporting local food systems • Reducing climate pollution These projects will avoid emissions equal to taking more than 300,000 gas-powered cars off the road for a year. This is how we grow smarter — protecting land while strengthening communities.

🎉 Exciting News from the Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) and Community Resilience Centers (CRC) Programs! At yesterday's meeting, the California Strategic Growth Council approved the TCC Round 6 Guidelines and the CRC Round 2 Guidelines! The Guidelines reflect a robust engagement process during the public comment period, during which the programs received a total of 112 public comment submissions combined. 🗓️ The Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) and applications for each program are scheduled to be posted on May 29, 2026. The request form for Application TA Assistance is live! TA Assistance will be available during the application period, and both programs will prioritize Tribal applicants. TCC will also prioritize applicants with Project Areas in disadvantaged unincorporated communities. Application TA for additional applicants may be available on a case-by-case basis.
