📢 New blog alert!  🏘️As temperatures continue to rise in the Central Valley, a new community resiliency center is being built in Tulare County – offering a place of refuge from extreme heat for some of the most vulnerable workers and their families. Fabiola Moncerrat Perez-Lua reflects on the importance of this project as it directly relates to her family: "Every summer, I worry about my dad laboring in extreme heat. I hear his stories about his co-workers collapsing in the fields … calling out for help. ... One of the great things about this project is we’re attempting to expand health-centered, community-centered, well-being centered infrastructure in the San Joaquin Valley, one cooling center at a time." Downtown Stockton is now safer, more connected, and easier to navigate thanks to the completion of the East Channel Street Streetscape and Connectivity Projectwith funds from the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program. 🚞The project includes widened sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, high-visibility crosswalks, improved lighting, bicycle routes, landscaping, and streetscape enhancements that make it safer and more convenient for people walking, biking, and taking transit. By strengthening connections between the Robert J. Cabral Train Station, the Downtown Transit Center, and Stockton’s Waterfront and Entertainment District, the project supports safer transportation options, vibrant public spaces, and continued downtown revitalization. 🏘️ Funding for the project included California’s Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program, administered by the California Strategic Growth Council and implemented by @California_HCD. AHSC funds affordable housing and transportation projects near jobs, schools, and other everyday destinations to help California advance its climate and equity goals. Approximately $55 million is available for Round 2 of the CRC Program to fund the planning, construction, and retrofit of community resilience centers to advance local communities’ long-term capacity to respond to and recover from climate emergencies. CRC Round 2 will have two grant types, Implementation and Planning Grants. 📝Review the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) and application materials on the CRC webpage: sgc.ca.gov/grant-programs… Use the Frequently Asked Questions Form to submit questions: bit.ly/crc_faq.
