🎉 We’re proud to recognize the Black Cultural Zone Community Development Corporation (BCZ) for securing $450,000 to advance a transformative resilience hub in East Oakland. The 31,000-square-foot project will serve as a central community resource, providing a cooling and refuge center powered by solar energy and battery storage, along with sustainable materials and nature-based solutions such as shade trees. 🌳☀️ More than a space, the hub represents a direct investment in community well-being, expanding: • Mutual aid and emergency support • Food distribution and food sovereignty • Workforce development opportunities • Access to community-based health resources This milestone builds on BCZ’s continued impact — supporting local workers and businesses, strengthening neighborhood safety, and preserving the legacy of East Oakland communities. This project is supported by LCI’s Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Grant Program (EHCRP), which funds local, regional and tribal efforts to reduce the impacts of extreme heat. The program advances coordinated, community-led solutions to strengthen resilience across California.
