LCI staff joined the Los Angeles County Chief Sustainability Office in South Los Angeles at Earvin “Magic” Johnson Park for a tour and heat resilience convening earlier this month. ☀️🌿 Local government staff and elected officials from across Los Angeles County gathered to learn about LA County’s Heat Action Plan and strategies to build more climate-resilient communities and ecosystems. Once a brownfield site, Magic Johnson Park has been transformed into a vibrant community hub featuring flourishing wetlands and wildlife habitat, shaded playgrounds, and a splash pad that helps South LA residents stay cool and connected to outdoor spaces. 💧🌳 Learn more about the Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program: lci.ca.gov/climate/icarp/… Sign up to receive updates from the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program to stay updated on funding opportunities when Round 2 launches this summer! 📧: lp.constantcontactpages.com/sl/5u7GOSv

Keep rolling! 🚴🏽‍♂️    Biking to work isn’t just great for your health—it’s a win for the planet 🌍 too. Just ask our LCI Director, Samuel Assefa, who lives the climate-friendly lifestyle he helps promote.     Director Assefa plays a key role in the LCI’s and SGC’s mission to build healthy, thriving, #ClimateResilient communities—but he doesn’t stop there. He bikes 90% of the time, often spotted around downtown Sacramento with his helmet in one hand and a work bag in the other.  🌟That also explains why his shoes may not always match his suit. Style meets sustainability. 💚     He doesn’t just ride for the environment—he genuinely enjoys it! 🚵🏾Biking has been his go-to form of transportation for more than three decades, across multiple cities and climates—including Seattle, the hills of San Francisco, Chicago, and Boulder. 🌦️Rain, snow, or shine—he bikes.     🌱A 2022 UCLA study found that swapping a car for a bike just once a day can reduce your transportation carbon emissions by 67%.     Imagine the impact if we all biked just one day this May!     #BikeToWorkWeek #BikeToWork #EcoCommute #SustainableLiving
